When Telkom launched it's "Killer Deal" package which was a Telkom Mixed account I was one of those that signed up for the 2 year contract. Well 2 years into the contract and I hadn't run into any trouble with Telkom. 6 more months with them and their true colours started to show. Invoices had extra amounts on them, line was suspended before time, restoring the line took a few extra days and queries weren't attended to unless I spent a good few hours in the Telkom Store.
Finally after the cons out weighed the pros by a mile, I decided to cancel my contract with Telkom to move over to MWEB. In March 2016 I went into the store to cancel my contract but with a request that my ADSL line be transferred to MWEB and my mobile number be converted to prepaid as I did not want to lose my number. On the 1st of March which my first visit to the store to cancel the contract, I was made to fill out the form but at the end of it I was told that the supervisor was gone for training and would only return on Friday and that they would call me to ask me to come in and complete the process to cancel the contract and have my ADSL and mobile both transferred as requested.
3 weeks later I went into the store to inquire about the supervisor and was made to wait 1 hour 15 min for the supervisor to return from lunch but I could not meet her as I had to get back to work.
Another week passes with no communication from the Telkom store. So I decide to go there one last time. This time the supervisor is there but she instructs the other attendant to complete the tasks. Now I am a software engineer so I know my way around a computer quite well but what I had to do that day was ridiculous. I sat there in front of the attendant and helped her to find her way around the system to try and cancel my contract. I was not a Telkom employee at any point in my life but she had formal training for her job and was still not able to find her way around her system.
Finally she printed out some documents for me to sign and was informed that it could take upto 7 days for the ADSL line to transfer to MWEB and it could take 30 days for the mobile to be converted to prepaid. I was fine with that as it did not leave me without internet or landline.
5 days later I received an email informing me that I needed to call MWEB and ask them to take over my ADSL line. My mobile number was converted to prepaid the same week but I lost about R300.00 worth of airtime that I had on that Top-up number. I forgo that airtime and was content that I no longer had to deal with Telkom again. Alas I was mistaken.
I received an invoice for +-R1900.00 and upon inquiring from the Call Center I was told that this was the final charge on my account for the last month plus pro-rata for the current month. After a lot of hesitation I paid the account and moved on.
3rd of June 2016 I received an invoice for the full amount of my contract. Thinking this was a mistake I ignored it and nothing seemed to have happened until 2 days ago. My line was suddenly suspended without warning. I called the call center and told them of what happened and was told that I had to pay the amount and only then will the suspension be lifted and in the meantime I could submit a dispute for the invoice. Not happy with the response, I submitted a Complaint on hellopeter. I got a response from "The Social Media Team" that someone would get back to me regarding the issue and in the meantime I was given a reference number which shows only as *. 2 Days have passed and I still don't have a response from them.
Just got off the line with 10120 (Billing Department). The agent told me that my contract has not been cancelled and that she will escalate the issue and someone will get back to me with response. I was also told that this would take 24-72 hours.
Waiting for a response... will keep you guys posted.
