I have got a pretty decent server that I put together a little while ago as a file server and hosting games. I host lan parties once a month / every two months and feel that a lot of this processing power is going to waste. Anyone have any ideas on what else I can be using this server for?

Here are the specs:

LOL been out done,

I didn't think you could host game on windows server

Maybe use it as a media centre?

I pretty much use it to run multiple dedicated game servers, dedicated file server and dc++ lan client, works great :)

Of course it does....

Most companies would KILL to own a server of that level....

Ja how did you get it? how much did it cost?

Well I got it piece by piece lol, I do pc repairs, networking, call outs, sales and that sort of thing and am registered with a few suppliers so things were a bit cheaper :D

I'd hate to see your actual computer if you only use that monster once a month!:D

Wow...all I can say :O! That's like pro business server. Overkill much? :P

I say Fold@home on it...might push electricity bill up a bit, but hey you're helping fight cancer :P

The Intel S5000VSA board is a dual processor board. So 8 CPUs is actually just 2 quad cores. :)

Awesome boards though. I've sold and set up a few before. Do you have it in the Intel chassis? If you do, you're going to do deaf! :D

Yeah its quite noisy lol, got everything all popped into a antec titan. Currently running some seti@home computations which is using all cores @ 100%, did install the folding@home client but I could only get it to use one core, so downloaded the multicore client that would use more than 1 core but total usage was about 15%, did notice a few advanced options for setting things up for multicore but did not play around too much.
