Using 5800xm as 3g modem?

regardless of using it as a modem or a phone, it says 3g or 3.5g, at the moment 3g. So that negates an antenna...?
Before this, I had a 6110 Navigator that did the same thing: showed 3/3.5g but connection was 115.2.
Aaargh!
No what i ment was the e220 might be getting HSDPA and the 5800 only 3G at the same location because of different harware and antenna strength.

I did try tethering my 5800 to my pc. Vista doesn't like Nokia or I've really got a bad collection of drivers. Short story really short: the modem drivers I have for the 5800 don't work so I cannot test this out.

Relly guys. Can somebody(VC/Nokia rep) suggest an idea? Same story with me: my 5800XM runs slower connection than my 6210Nav. A friend with a 5800 never uses it for i/net, using a cheaper Samsung instead. May be under ideal conditions the XM will be faster, but who has ideal cond's anyway?

I think vegeta's suggestion is the most likely - if the phone is only picking up 3G signal (as you say it is), then it will only connect at 3G speeds, even if another device can get HSDPA (3.5G) speeds from the same tower. Try making sure the signal is reading 3.5G when you connect. If it still connects slowly you have a problem, otherwise your phone just isnt getting a good enough signal.

i have same problem atm, but as yebo stated u can change it , but to 460 max at the modem settings, and in the dail up i get it to max 917 ....but how do i get it to 3600???? (3.6mb/s)
