Greetings

So my chromebook hit AUE this year. I'm curious as to whether one can continue to use it safely.

I know that theres software out there for turning old windows machines into chromebooks, wondering if theres something similar that can extend the life of mine.

TIA

thanks for this

No android apps arent a big deal its a browser machine for the wife.
Then Flex is your best option, like bsb said.

I love my CB, started with a Lenovo Flex 5 but wanted something smaller, but it took me a couple months to eventually sell the Lenovo, cos CBs are underappreciated here I guess. Still managed to come out with a profit and got a refurb/as new HP X2 11" for $180 from Amazon (about $240 including shipping and duties/VAT).

thanks.

Screen came on for like a minute while I was trying to Powerwash it, then nothing.

I opened it up to check all connections, and I can get to the login screen if I connect it to a screen via HDMI.

However, this only happens when the lid is almost closed, and by then the keyboard/pad is disabled.

probably one of the ribbon cables is forked.

Huh?

Factory reset your Chromebook

  1. Sign out of your Chromebook.
  2. Press and hold Ctrl + Alt + Shift + r.
  3. Select Restart.
  4. In the box that appears, select Powerwash
    and then
    Continue.
  5. Follow the steps that appear and sign in with your Google Account.
Note: The account you sign in with after you reset your Chromebook will be the owner account.
  6. Once you've reset your Chromebook:

I am using a Dell Chromebook from 2014

End of life was many years ago for Chrome Book usage

I flashed a new firmware from "mrchromebox" ( check Reddit ) and stuck Linux on it

Performs absolutely amazing and is my daily driver out of 3 choices - still get 4hrs battery out of it

Lots of Youtube vids and Reddit subs on this subject

Erm...Mecer/Mustek?

jirre, what a bunch of useless fecking idiots.

Dropped off the unit at Mustek yesterday, and get an email from the repair tech saying the mainboard is dead and there's no replacement parts.

I'm like, how could I get it to display via HDMI & use it then?

And it's not even the LCD, because the backlight comes on, it's just the ribbon cable that's probably cut.

Anyway, do you guys know of any repair shop that could find a screen replacement and/or the connecting cables?

I trust you learned not to buy a Mecer again and that the big brands cost what they do because of support and warranties.

just for the resurection technique

After AUE chromebooks can still be used by enabling Lacros in chrome://flags.

my underestanding is that this allows the lacros browser to continue getting chrome updates despite the fact that the chromebook is no longer receiving updates for chromeos.
