Hi all

So I've finally gotten fibre installed (YAY) however the WIFI signal is terrible on the router I received from Afrihost. I get about half the coverage in my house than I did with my old LTE router.

I have a spare Vodacom fibre router sitting at work. If this router has better WIFI signal, would it be possible to take this router, plug it into my ONT and use it? Or do I have to use the router that I got from Afrihost?

Thanks

Yes, you can use any router.

Who is the FNO?

Did you get the Huawei router?

Same experience when I first got fibre. Used the old vdsl router as an acces point. Ran a 20m lan cable from fibre router to the vdsl router. Change broadcast channels. Get full speed at vdsl router.

Wifi 6 is about speed not distance.

I know but what's the point of having amazing speed when half the devices in your house can't even connect because the signal is so crappy.

Yeah if the spare Vodacom fibre router I have at work isn't better, I'll look at setting up an AP in the house.

When we moved to our house and reinstalled the fibre line I didn't bother getting the ISP provided WiFi router, I bought my own due to previous experiences with ISP provided WiFi routers.

Maybe you need to add another router. Use the questionnaire at the bottom https://ax3.afrihost.com/ to see.

I don't blame you.

Meh it says I need 2 :/ The previous ZTE LTE router I had gave me zero signal problems. WIFI picked up all over the house. With this Huawei, downstairs is practically a dead zone.

The vodacom router might be locked, Vodacom generally tend to lock their routers, so you will have to see if it is locked or not.

You can play around with the guard interval setting to increase range.

Advance wifi settings > guard interval range
