Nope, they extended the warranty cause some where prone to RROD.
I was one of the lucky lot that used said Warranty. My second one ran smooth as butter till I donated it to friends back in 2012.

Personally If I was @bwana I would rather shop for a Xbox 360 E than try and get stuff for the old one. Will probably be cheaper/better in the long run.
