Interesting chat I had with client, he says he take E-Bike to town instead for petrol powered car/bike.

It cost him 20k for 2nd hand model.

He says he takes yellow lane on highway, pretty sure that is not allowed? On smaller roads he says he uses the same lanes as the car.
It can do up 70km/h and mentioned torque is instant so you quicker off the line than normal cars.

1.1KWh battery cost him R2 charge fully, but he charges at work for free.

It cost me less than year to get my return on investment if do this for my daily commute.

Anybody else using these?

I know overseas they are popular,
take on on the commute and at the station unpack them and ride around to your job.

some places already have accidents and so you need a license due to the popularity of these things.

here, I don't think we qualify.
firstly risk it will get stolen.
secondly, with all the missing manhole covers and potholes one tumble and your done.
and thirdly, taxi drivers will try run you over, as your taking away their "Job"

How far's your commute?

Just use a regular bike if <20km.
Client says his range 60km, his commute is 20k, Mine is 17km. He charges at work for free, so that gives him enough range for next day.

He drives on R44 from strand to stellies everyday for a year now.

Same risk as with petrol powered bike, they about same size "poegie" as we call them in afrikaans.

I commute using my Ebike from Blouberg to Century City and back - the area though is conducive for bikers with dedicated cycle lanes. I'd certainly not tempt fate cycling in the normal car lanes or in the emergency lanes. People who do are just dumbasses

maybe so,
but Ive asked myself many times why hasnt one of the bike-sharing companies come locally.
especially in a place like sandton CBD or Fourways/Brynston areas.

simply biggest issue is theft and dangerous roads
as they aren't set up for it. and taxi drivers are a vindictive lot.
