Anyone here using a mobile service (3G, HSDPA) for demanding online multiplayer gaming like Battlefield or other FPS's?

Whats your experience? Assuming one has a steady connection, is it even playable or does the latency issue wreck the gaming experience?

thx

I play on iburst (not for long anymore) and I get a lot of spiking... I have played with VC 3G as well, was a bit better, but it all depends on your connection. Keep in mind the data usage with online games. I play cod blops and the usage, with ts, is about 400mb per day.

I've been playing blops at college the past two weeks of cellC 3G(the first 7.2Mb/s modem) and the game runs like a monster of my laptop, will almost say its more enjoyable than my desktop.

In terms of ping I have between 45-90ms but on an average day it sits on about 60 which is more than enough to play with.

nice! How much data do you use?, and WTF is blops? oh black ops...lol

Hey kompete, speed wise it's normally fine but depending on your connection latency can be a big concern as there is larger overhead in the communication.

Haven't been monitoring it but as SharkBait mentioned it should be below 400mb. I'm close to being capped so I monitored myne today, used about 80mb in a 6h session.

I must add that I have awesome signal at college as this is the only place where I have ever maxed out the bandwidth capacity(7.2mb/s download rate) on my 3G card, have also seen people pulling 20-30mb/s on the new sticks so I assume the tower we use isn't under much load.

Tried BF 3 beta, with a cheap 3g usb modem, plugged into my desktop. Didn't expect much... And WOW!!!

Never ever ever again shall I have adsl problems just because our line is stolen every 2nd month. Don't know why I didn't try this earlier.

No lag, smooth games play, no line drops, constant between 2mbs-4mbs

I've only tried quake live and HoN on my 8ta 3g. HoN had no issues and quake live was alright (80 odd ms) lag spikes are common though. Its nothing compared to adsl but it is usable especially for me as i don't really game online much anymore
