Using SLI

Is it only possible to use SLI with two exact Graphics Cards or can you use SLI with say a 8600GT and a 6600GT?

They need to be the same chipset, although different brands can be used.

What thisgeek said is correct, your setup can be different brands but must be same chipset.

I have read that nVidia are working on Hybrid SLI that would let you use an onboard and full graphics at the same time. I can't remember if it included using a lower end older GPU
