We are currently experiencing substantial packet loss on international bandwidth via UUNet ADSL. This will affect international browsing speeds.

Please accept our apologies for the degraded service. We are working with UUNet to get this resolved as quickly as possible.

Further updates will be posted here.

Thank you

We have gotten news back from UUNet regarding the ADSL packet loss situation, and they have indicated that they need to upgrade their international bandwidth to meet the requirements of the multitude of users that they have taken on, which they expect to have done within the next few days.

Again we apologize for the degraded service and we continue to work with UUNet to get this resolved quickly.

If we hear anything more, we will update here.

Thank you

Yeah Currently using my capped account to play WoW(Terrible last night) till they fix the issue with the uncapped accounts since my pings are all in the 10000ms range it's impossible to play.

*hugs Hellhound*

I feel your pain brother  tried to play last night. Was absolutely disastrous.

The first Upgrade was from Saix to UUnet's backbone that line was doubled and now can be increased via software instead of hardware :) This is the first time they are increasing INTERNATIONAL bandwidth... and I hope they go the same route where they can also upgrade this via software.

Where did you hear they can use software now to upgrade?

Does this mean that they have a physical line that can handle more than what they use right now? eg. 100mbit line with a limited pipe of 50mbit?

That is as I understand it.But remeber when they enable this on their side they have to pay the exstra amount to Telkom for using more bandwidth. So they will only open up the line when they can cover the cost. Please note this is as far as I know.

i rate uunet does this slow down everyone for a few days to save bandwidth just a thought i mean how many times do they need to upgrade?

Int FTP speeds still slow - seems to be getting slower..... when will this upgrade be done....? WA please give us an indication...

You must understand that the international speeds are not merely confined to WebAfrica, but will be experienced with every ISP that resells UUNet's ADSL accounts. There is only so much that we can do beyond waiting for UUNet to buy more international bandwidth (something that is of great expense to them and will require more planning than the previous bandwidth purchases, which were local).

We are trying our best to get this sorted out with UUNet, but in the end it's up to them as to how they wish to deal with the problem. They are considering various options for the interim such as changing how the routing works so that the ADSL bandwidth is more evenly distributed amongst their various international links, but we currently do not know whether this will for definitely happen nor when.

Hope you are putting some presure on UUNET! Maybe you want us to help? You want us to email complaints to UUNET? Just give a email adres

I can confirm that my international is also slooooow - http, p2p, ftp, et al. - makes little differnce. I'm with Cyberonline which is also UUNET.

me 2

Yeah, me 2 :( Cant even update CS:Source. Been sitting on 94% forever. I figured I`d play some CS since WoW is unplayable......guess not.
Hope this get resolved soon.

Well now this is pretty lame ... selling a service and getting paid for it but yet you don't have the capacity to deliver it.
