UUnet ping times THIS high?

Hi Guys

I was just curious but over the last few days(since beginning of last week) Ping times on the UUnet account have sky rocketed for me pinging places like www.google.com or even our local www.saix.net everything is over 500ms and google usually in the 2000ms range?!? what is going on? or am I the only one revieving this type of service... it's actually got to a point where my shaped account is faster for gaming on WoW than my unshaped super duper UUnet account? Any comments? or am I missing something here?

Don't know about you, but my WoW ping times on my shaped account have been consistently over 1200 and sometimes peaking over 4000. So I don't think it's soley retricted to UUNET. :eek:

Well on my shape it's 1000-4000ms... but my UUnet account is 750ms-16000ms on WoW and the majority is in 2400-4000ms.. I don't know if it's worth paying R720 for that kind of a connection?I don't think this is acceptable.. I heard they are upgrading their line this week so I'll wait and see if it isn't better I'm going to cancel my subscription.It isn't delivering what I want it to for the price I'm paying.

UUNet's service has degraded substantially over the past week or so and this weekend has been extremely poor ping-wise. I agree though, for R720pm this is definitely not worth the money at the moment.

I would not be surprised though if the increase in ping times is a combination of these proposed bandwidth upgrades, as well as a large influx of subscribers.

Thanks for the FYI, please keep me updated to whether the ping times improve on UUNET or not. WoW with this kind of latency really sux, especially when your attacking more than one NPC at a time. Would nice to hear from Sybawoods, to see if he is also been experiencing crap ping times on his unshaped service. :confused:

Late yesterday afternoon latency went sky high on shaped and unshaped for some reason, so I assume their was a problem somewhere on the backbone that affected everyone. Generally for me, UUNET latency has been worse than both SAIX shaped and unshaped. Looking forward to test once the upgrade comes through, but a.t.m. it's definitely not gamer friendly. And never was designed to be, I guess - UUNET uncapped is aimed at the business market.
 
Thanks for the response. But I was on last night. Somebody out there is missing out on a big opportunity. Is there no one out there prepared to offer a gamers package with super low latency but minimal bandwidth. :confused: . I know there's an alternative for WoW, but that's not the only game out there :(
 
Yes pings on UUNET suck big bucks...

Aparently they are busy upgrading the adsl gateways...they said it will be fixed after wednesday, which is today, I'd love for it to be fixed :(

Anybody on UUNET tell me if their ping times are down to acceptable levels? :confused: The upgrade should be complete.
 
Haha, no, in fact it's probably gotten worse. While I'm glad that WebAfrica is not really wanting to oversell on their accounts, this does not include the numerous other ISP's and whatever that still continue to sell them. Frankly, no upgrades have taken place yet (apparently this is delays on the side of Telkom), and the service gets worse and worse.

How does a 24 second World of Warcraft ping after midnight sound to you? I would say it sounds pretty damn bad.
 
lol sounds like ur still capped except the 3gig is slowed down to the extend that it lasts a whole month

Ah... and the plot thickens. Maybe telkom are tired of losing potential unshapped customers :rolleyes:
