UUnet ping times THIS high?

Well, luckily it's nowhere near as bad as capped ADSL, but it's pretty bad, especially in World of Warcraft for example. Stuff like HTTP, etc. works pretty well still and I can still get on ICQ/AIM/MSN easily enough (impossible on capped ADSL). It's just that for R714pm I expect downloads in the region of 40-50KB/s for 512K ADSL (while I'm currently seeing downloads that fluctuate between 1KB/s and 30KB/s depending on where I'm downloading from) and I expect pings that are reasonable and in the 600ms range for international, and 100ms the most for local (at the moment it's anywhere from 600 to "too high to record").

It's not worth the money really at the moment (though HTTP is still good and usable).

it's dissapointing really, as soon as there is light of the tunnel, the janitor comes and turns off the power "to save electricity"

I'm getting 190-1600ms ping locally on UUNET. They said it should be fixed by wednesday, which wednesday is now the real question. I hope I did not waste R720 and they fix it soon because my WoW is on it's way, which is why I got this account in the first place.

I'm on iburst, which uses UUNET, and my average to unreal.co.za is 429ms, spiked up to 1200ms, lowest was 68ms.

Google a solid 400ms average, lowest 360ms

But I can tell you that this isn't what it always looks like. Very spikey at times.

I am more curious as to wtf UUNET did. Ok 1st hop times out (normal they did that in test phase) 2nd hop goes like 30ms like perfect, then comes the 3rd hop and its 1200ms+ upto waaay bad sometimes.

I remember the beta days, was like 30ms to SGS gaming servers, 280ms - 450ms to WoW servers in both US and EU. Now it seems something is not right...

Something fishy.

Its thursday evening, must be next wendnesday it will be fixed. I think after this Ill rather go with 2 3gb accounts.

I agree beta days rocked, but I suspect beta had only 10 users or so ;-)

400 - 600 for WoW you lucky lucky bartard. On my shaped account it goes btw 800 - 2500 on a good day, and that's after hours haven't even tried to play during the day. Looks like unshaped is the only playable service, telkom diabolical scheme is working

You asked noone. WoW on iburst very playable. Ping range from 500 - 1200. average 750ms. The higher range seems to be when you enter a very populated area ie its server side.

At the moment, Saturday Morning (5th of March - 8:04AM) is going great, internet speeds are back to "reasonable" levels. They're still not perfect, but WoW is back down to playable levels (600-800ms) and general internet speed has improved substantially.

Anyone Else get an improvement on pings? Playing to WoW at 600-800 latency... it rocks.. I guess something happened... :) I heard they have cancelled all the test account to get more bandwidth till the line is upgarded :)

They are upgrading with more bandwith now and again....

It's not getting any better. I'm turning into a smurf from holding my breath for too long.

Yep Sunday everything turned back to ... well.. bad pings :) I played WoW yet again and the pings were 4000ms< so I gave up and changed back to my shaped/capped account to my shame it seems Saix accounts are far more stable currently with pings ranging from 800-1400ms usually never higher than that. Anyway I hear the upgrade is happening this week(strange I heard the same thing last week) so we'll have to wait and see.

Is it a coincidense that since www.allyoucaneat.com started advertising, this terrible lag started too?

I've heard of people downloading as much as 240gig a month.

Maybe Uncapped is a bit out of reach for UUNet at this early stage. Could I suggest that UUNet should have a 30gig-50gig cap? That way we could distinguish the users from the abusers. I'd rather have a cap with a good ping, than a this.
