So last week a buddy of mine invites me along to ride shotgun for a weekend trip refered to as the Cannonball Run, an event that is apparently in its 3rd year of running.
His vehicle happens to be a 51 Ford V8 :
1021

What a trip, Fri morning departed Killarney Gardens, via Philadelphia to Malmesbury, Riebeek-Kasteel, to stop at the Gouda Hotel for "refreshments", then on through Ceres to Aquila Game farm for lunch and the through to over night in Montagu.

Sat we departed Montagu and headed down route 62 to Ronnies Sex shop for a break and more "refreshments", then on through to Oudsthoorn and eventually overnight at Willowmore, where we were welcomed by a huge lamb spit on the go.

Sun saw as heading through Meiringspoort where we stopped at the Waterfall and rock pools to cool down and "refresh"ourselves, and the on to Prince Albert for the final night and another great catered braai at the local Bush Pub, and then Monday morning hit the N1 bak for C.T.

Unf@cking believable, with a range of V8's like i have never seen, the power of some of these cars is unreal, gut wrenching at times, and completely adrenalin inducing.

To hell with hybrid technology and fuel efficient little tin cans, from now on I am looking for a V8 and the open roads.

A Selection of some of these beauties

Awesome stuff! There's nothing that sounds better than a purring V8.

Aside from the car stuff, sounds ****ing awesome!

I used to be of the same opinion, however this trip opened my eyes to more than just cars, many of the guys were wealthy in ways that are just simply rude, but many also made quite a bit of money off these cars as well, buying old broken down models, restoring them or converting them and the returns off what they paid and what they get for them is mind-boggling, 300 to 500 % return for the money spent over maybe 6 months to 2 years.
Many of these vehicles i found were more than just "toys" as i used to think but actual investment cars.
The trick is finding what is worth redoing and what is going to suck your pocket dry.

Ah now I know what they were up to :) Saw the procession going from Killarney Gardens turning into Blauwberg Road on Friday. Must have been an absolute jol.

Was driving home last night on Platterkloof Road when an R8 pulled up next to me. Love the tone. The dude wanted to dice. Not sure if it was a V8 or V10. No match for my measly 350z V6 so I let him take off and disappear. Maybe one day will be able to afford such a car. Wont buy one though. Wonder how much his insurance is.

Epic. The ladies leave their undies behind at Ronnie's?

Now to cure you of your politics.......
