Vaal Dam levels

So what? Our rainy season is December to March. We haven't even started filling up the dams yet.

Was just coming to say something similar. We're at the start of November, having just come out of winter, of course our dam levels will be low!

We can start panicking when we hit March and we're low on water.

And then we have another 50 weeks of backup water from Sterkfontein Dam even if it doesn't rain.

Sounds like ANC cadre thinking, only starting to worry and sparingly use water when it's already used up...

I didn't say anything about not using water responsibly but to be talking about day zero and getting people up in arms is looking for trouble.

I'm currently involved with a project to install a new water pipe linking two areas and the community is going ape **** about there not being an extension towards them considering the water shortage. The more we explain its not a public development the more the local ANC refers us to articles like these and demand a tie in.

Well, one has to use hyperbole or everyone just continues as they were, spraying their driveways clean with clean potable water every damn day.

To be fair, it's usually the ignorant Garden Engineer that is doing this. They don't pay for water in their township.

Too lazy to use a broom..

I've seen gardeners hosing drive ways under supervision of their employers, so they're just doing what is allowed. Water isn't cheap I'd expect that you would tell your gardener not to waste water like that

Beginning of October a Meteorologist from the Weather Service told everyone that we should expect a dry month, with more rain in the winter rainfall areas, until November.

I'm only going to start worrying if they start using the Dolomite Aquifers under Gauteng.
They've estimated the Chuniespoort Group contains as much water as Lake Kariba.

Does the Vaal receive flows from the Lesotho highlands projects? Been hearing the Mohale and Katse dams are both sitting with very low water levels?

So likely the Vaal will continue to remain <60% after the rainy season is done until we see the Lesotho catchment areas fill up their dams?
Think this is the main reason it's been so low for the last month or so.
