Vaal Dam levels

So likely the Vaal will continue to remain <60% after the rainy season is done until we see the Lesotho catchment areas fill up their dams?
No.
We're still getting the full 35 cumecs from Katse.
The next good rain spell will have a huge impact on the dam, as all the upstream and surface dams are full and the water tables are up.

Sterkfontein Dam
Percentage: 91.2%
Level: 78.54
Volume: 2387.8
Flow: 0
Rainfall: 3.4
Last update: 13 December 2019

Sterkfontein (which is a backup source, with little evaporation due to depth vs smaller surface and being in the cooler mountains, and has a Vaal Dam like capacity) is luckily still pretty full.

Remember that they released water in December 2016 from it (I drove past the flooding Sterkfontein Spruit at the time), just before the good rainfalls started,

Saw this just now. Not sure whether this is a false reading....

Did it piss down around Ermelo yesterday or the day before?

and traditionally we get a massive uplift around the end Feb/beginning of March. Let's hope.

Seems the highest it reached last year was 75.61% on 12 Jan. I sure hope we get good rain in the catchment area around March, or we have an issue coming next year.

The difference is last year, very little water incoming from Lesotho. This year that will hopefully be restored after the maintenance work has been will be completed.

That work has already been completed, and I cannot find any indication that some similar was in affect earlier last year.

I heard there is some construction work on the base of the wall which may explain why they are not allowing it to fill up

Are you sure? The only construction related to the Vaal I've heard of is on the Lesotho side. It'd be monumentally stupid to be doing work that keeps the dam from filling up in the middle of the rainy season. Unless the project has to run over multiple seasons and can't be held over.
