For those that play CS:GO rumours are that Valorant is a CS:GO killer, but some of the big streamers dont really think so. So if you play CS:GO maybe download Valorant and see

I have had access to the game since May 12, but I didn't install it given 2 reasons.

I honestly don't trust their anti-cheat and I do have applications on my gaming PC which may be detected as cheats. Yes, you have Cheat Engine or CoSMOS installed it will be detected as a cheat and will request it to be uninstalled. This was the case in the beginning and I don't know whether this intrusive has been changed.

The other reason I am holding back is seeing SA streamers playing the game. The lag is horrendous.

Servers will come, until then I will wait and see what is going to happen with the anti-cheat since the whole world is now attacking anti-cheats through the anti-Denuvo campaign. I guess everyone wants to protest, and I also blame the YouTubers backing this. Anti-cheats have merit in online competitive games.
 
Just tested. 200ms ping on average. It's a problem. The game is...well...

Anyone feel like some CS:GO tonight?
 
I doubt anything other than a new CS will take the crown from CS:GO.

Depends what is regarded as the crown?

Player numbers?
Viewer numbers?
Prize pool numbers?

Valve has also gone a bit delinquent with their sponsored and endorsed events.

Nah. I thought so too but it's better than that. The character's do have tangible, useful differences. The right team make-up can work very well together. Obviously there will be a learning curve with regards to the abilities, but in my VERY limited experience with it, the abilities have screwed me over and also helped me.

It's scenario specific and only as useful as the player using them, but it's something new.
 
Wanted to check it out on my local machine (saw there were some practice modes available) but can't without installing their anti-cheat so canned that. While I like the idea of a strong anti-cheat (if it's effective!) when people play online, I wouldn't want it running while I do stuff on my local machine.

Will check it out again when / if there are local servers.
 
it is an interesting mash-up of a non-realistic shooter with a team-based arena shooter. I'm actually thinking it will kill Quake champions before it kills csGO.

Is it available on lan?

Local machine? What has your job had you do during lockdown, networking?

I might be completely wrong but I think I read somewhere with the full release they added a toggle for the anti cheat.

Edit:

"With our latest version, we’re making changes to give you more visibility and control of Vanguard, while maintaining all its security features. We've added a visible System Tray icon that lets you know when Riot Vanguard is running. This will come with the functionality of being able to turn Vanguard on and off, without uninstalling it, though it will also come with an uninstaller. For more on how to disable or uninstall, head here."

Quake Champions have gone pro thanks to FACEIT, COVID-19 has delayed things, but there is a World Championship to be played. The prize pool is large, and I am looking forward to it, and Clan Arena launched in April. It will be some time to hear if esports orgs will sign Clan Arena teams.

Different shooter, different mode, different crowd.

Here's how to turn off Vanguard and save some RAM on your computer.

After updating and rebooting your PC and your Valorant client, you will see a tiny red logo in the system tray. Vanguard can be turned off at any time, though it will place your computer in an "untrusted mode" and will need to be turned back on in order to play Valorant. If you'd rather not have to exit out of Vanguard every time you turn your computer on, you can uninstall the program by pressing "More" on the System tray icon and then "Uninstall Vanguard." Next time you boot up Valorant to play, it will automatically reinstall the program.

The installing bit is the part I don't like - I don't install things unless I'm going to use them. As far as I can tell, there's no way to install the game without Vanguard and I don't see the need for Vanguard till I play online so it's a non-starter for me.
