Astounding that W221s can be had for that money these days. I just don't like the rear lights. W220 was the car on my wall when I was 18 in 1999.

I was amazed that you can have that much car for that money. I always told myself that my next car is going to be a really left field one. Buying new sucks

I suppose as with anything, the ownership isn't likely to bankrupt you but if something serious should go wrong out of warranty/motorplan you'll end up with a lot of bills to cover

Depends what it is. The most common failure is the air suspension and it is not too hard to get replacements part fitted. S class has always been solid built, if you one that was serviced properly you should have little to no issues.

I was reading a thread on another board...someone with an Amarok that had VW quote them R230k for a new engine for their bakkie after the EGR cooler failed at around 100'000km. Totally unrelated but that is an absurd amount of money for an engine no matter how you slice it :wtf:

I toy with the idea of buying something like a 2012-era Audi A4 or a 320d or the likes, but then I hear about how a xenon light ballast can cost upwards of R9k, or a set of injectors costing a fair bit of dosh or even something arb like a window winder - something you can't really pre-empt unlike a knocking sound coming from your sump or a rattling valve train.

That is what really scares me.

Torque is nice, but I am more for power. I don't have to pull a lot of weight so a normally aspirated petrol with 220NM is a safe bet.

But the guys from vw said it is cleaner and good for the environment lol

I just love the torque from the diesel, its so addictive! Probably won't buy petrol again.

Can't be sure if you were sarcastic there, but it's debatable whether diesel is better for the environment. It releases a lot more sulphur and particulate matter than a petrol-burner will. Petrol engines are getting pretty clean these days.

Yeah just joking about environment lol
