@FiestaST I need a car. Budget is about +-R80k. Light on fuel and cheap to fix. Any suggestions?
/not a broken record but a Mazda 2 fits your bill 110% & then some.

Try & aim for the 1,5 (the 1,3 is on the weaker end) & not the base model as it’s pretty sparse. Dynamic should be good.

2nd choice would be an i20, they ride & well & running costs should be minimal.

Only choice ever is 320D E90 LCI
Fully agree. Because even LCI sounds legit. Why call it a facelift when you can call it Life Cycle Impulse:love:

But in all seriousness, get something that you won't mind picking up a few battle scars in. There are plenty of nice Rio's/Getz'/i20's in that price class and the 2008 and up Korean offerings are really solid vehicles all around.

Thanks, I'll add this to the list of to look at.

I'm really considering this because many people suggested it. There are a lot of them on the road, so I'm assuming parts won't be a problem. It also seems to have good economy.

The 320d is a bit of a meme around here, they are good reliable cars when maintained properly but hellish when they go wrong. And they will go wrong sooner or later, as the Germans really know how to over-engineer things.

Source: I have put 150k km on a Hyundai i30 and total repairs for those eight years were in the order of R10k. The priciest items were a new starter motor and a brake light switch. Oh, and an o2 sensor.

I now drive a older German car which I have put about 5000km on since January, and I am up to just under R55k in repairs so far.

I'm aware of it's meme status:ROFL:

I guess I'm a bit lost on what can work for me. I want a certain level of comfort but I also don't have the budget.

The other option is to buy a new Chery but I want to avoid this. I don't like monthly payments and would prefer to buy cash.

If you folks see anything that sort of fits my vague description, please pm or @ me with the link:)

You should make a thread so we can rub our collective brains together and come up with some ideas for you. Then you can also tell us what is NB to you in a car, what are some mandatory things you want and what are creature comforts you could maybe do without.

I definitely think that you cannot go wrong with an Eastern model. I'd avoid buying a used German vehicle as a first car unless you have some cash reserves for when things start to go awry.
