Hi Guys, not sure if this is the right thread. I needed to upgrade this month, and was comparing the old xxxcall packages with the new Anytime packages.

On a Procall 150, you pay R350 pm, get 150 min to use "WHENEVA!". Peak is MTN to MTN is R2.05 and offpeak R0.95. Billing is per second.
On Anytime 350 you also pay R350, you get 180min to use. Your pay R1.95 MTN to MTN so long you have not used up your 180min, after that you pay R2.35. Billing is also per second.

It gets worse the lower in package you go.

The conclusion I have made is that you pay the same to get less. And I cant even justify it by saying the service is good...

But... but... it has a bigger number in the name, it must be better

I don't buy their whole claim of "simplifying" things. Eliminating off-peak rates entirely from their main Anytime package was just too much, and rules a new MTN contract out for me.

agreed...

Im inclided to stay on my Procall150 until the call costs become too much. Right now I have an awesome phone anyway.

I used to be on the Procall 120 at around R 300 pm. Migrated to Anytime R 350 earlier this year. The Procall wasn't billing per second. I used up the 120 anytime minutes consistently every month. The Anytime 350 package is per second billing and I'm now using around R 200 of value each month. I have the odd data download, which can come off the Anytime 350 value. That wasn't the case previously. Based on similar usage patterns and habits, the rand value of my usage has dropped to around R 250 pm vs close on R 400 per month under the Procall package. The Anytime package also rolls over for 5 months and not 1 month as in the case of the Procall.

On face value, I thought the new packages were a rip off, but when you use it you see that the costs have come down. There should actually be an Anytime 300, but I supposed they pushed in the 350 for the extra revenue.

I was also very dissatisfied with the new packages in the beginning, but after analysing my usage patterns more closely, it seems the new packages are better. The fact that you can use the Rand amount for ANY combination of sms, data and voice saves me money whereas on MyCall 100 I pay extra for data, extra for sending more than 15 sms and extra if I use more than 15 peak minutes. This happens every month, so I am looking forward to renewing my contract next month and migrating to Anytime100.

(I just wish MTN would stop spamming me about their competition...)

Per second billing

Would per second billing on my current Procall 150 not be better then? I also find I dont use all the 150 minutes a month, maybe about 100 minutes or so. So my account with sms's and a bit of data is rarely over R400.

The other thing is MTN service sucks. I have a dual sim for my car and cell. When it was activated, I lost my voicemail ? ? ? Then it took 2 months, countles calls to 808, threats to take my account elsewhere, promises of "Supervisors" that will call you back, that its logged with technical, emails to consumers whatchdogs, hellopeter and finally ICASA (which only acknowledged receipt this week) before it was sorted out....took only 5 minutes by the techie.

Reading on the forums it would seem apart from coverage and dropped calls the other operators arent realy better.

Better the devil you know, than the devil you dont...

I suggest you read this thread.

This has been discussed in dept with users analysing their ITB and realised it does work out cheaper. I'm not going to repeat everything again, so enjoy the read :)

btw: Forget about your "minutes" cos this is where you are making the mistake. Analyse your ITB per call work through your previous ITB and see how much you would have saved on the New package vs the Old package.

Well for me I don't phone much. I use my phone more for Data, SMS and GPRS. These things don't come off minutes whereas they do come off from airtime value so I find the new packages a lot better for me.

Same experience here - new packages definitely work out cheaper.

OK, I get it. The call costs are averaged between all the endpoints. So even If I call MTN to MTN, it wont be cheaper than it is on my current package.
Funny thing is, I chose MTN because most ppl I know are on MTN. SOOOOooo I saved more after using up my minutes, than if I was with another provider.
Now however I cant manage that. Ill have to take a months bill and wok out the costs and compare them, but I still thinked im being done in though.

I actually ported from Vodacom to MTN because the new MTN packages suited me so much more than Vodacoms packages ever did. Being able to use the Rand value for calls, sms's, data, etc is saving me a bundle.
