I have been offered software dev position but they are sending me to do a Van Zyl and Pritchard test. Any idea of what type of testing this is?

They are some training centre, like the CTU's and CTI's of the world...

I remember this, because they do entrance exams for anyone that wants to study there.

Good possibility that the test is the Van Zyl and Pritchard Aptitude Test. (VZAP)

The Van Zyl and Pritchard (VZAP) Aptitude Test

The first category (CONCENTRATION) requires the ability to concentrate without the candidate allowing any distraction, for + 45 minutes.

PERCEPTION consists of pattern recognition combined with arithmetic.

SPEC READING attempts to predict whether the candidate will repeat the reading of instructions before attempting later parts of the question, or whether he will be inclined to take a chance. Eighty percent of the people we test achieve 35% for this section. It does not appear to be a final determinant when taken in isolation.

CONCEPTS OF TABLES/POINTERS Handling tables is one of the more difficult concepts to get across in a training situation and this also applies to pointers.

In the good/bad/sad old days of Cobol, Basic, Pascal and Fortran, Van Zyl and Pritchard was the only institution that offered any kind of programming course and they have always had an entrance test of some kind - in my day the entrance test was mainly logic & problem solving type stuff. Your test will probably align with their courses in your dev area.

When I did the aptitude test, it was 5 questions, 1 hour per question. So 5 hours in total.

Good luck.

when I took the VZAP entrance test, it was too see if you had what it took to get into the full time course or just the part time course.

Are they still teaching Cobol courses?

Wow....they still do that...I took this test waaaaaay back in '78....and passed! My first IT job with Burroughs SA.

Please elaborate on these 5 questions. I am going for the 5 hours assessment with VZAP,but for a d evelopmentjob offered by a certain IT company.

TIA

It's psychometric testing- very specific aptitude testing to see if your brain is suited for the studies/job.

It's similar to an IQ test. You can't study or cheat.

I am being booked to go write my 5 hours assessment at VZAP, the first one i wrote at MIP 3hours. Please any assistance on what to expect?

Have you passed the test. What is needed there to pass it? May you please give a small clarity of what is being asked th?

VZAP tests are based on logic and comprehension, you cannot study for it
Think of it as a 'open book test' for general knowledge

Hi, I have booked to write the 5-hour VZAP assessment. How long after the assessment should I expect results on whether or not I have passed?
