I disagree with this so much!

I was raised in a house where both my parents worked, everybody knows that my mother was actually the lady that worked for us Ivy.
Neither of these two woman taught me to read. My grade 1 teacher taught me to read. That is why we pay them??
Maybe teacher should stop complaining about pay if they feel that the parents should teach children.

Yes my parents did influence me by getting me a Library card and forcing me too take out books but that was after I was taught to read by a teacher.
My mom did home work with me, and only when i had to read to her or if i had a problem, and then she would ask me why i did not pay attention in class and if i did I should have said that i do not understand what the teacher was explaining.
And back when dinosaurs were on the earth we only started doing homework in STD1. ( grade 3)
We did not have grade00 and pre primary school was about play and story time.

And guess what we are the clever bunch not the dumb bunch that cannot read and write.
Yes 14 years of “the new government” fsucked up our education system.
So there are not enough teachers? And who's fault is that?

Care to have guess on the costs of R&D'ing such a project, and getting it out to the public? Not to mention the costs of providing content. It is currently not a viable solution for any company to spend coinage on. At best, you would get a government committee to be formed to look at the system, but that is where it will sit.

It’s already been done. Amazon.com have a reader and Microsoft (I think) also. The Japanese are also entering the fray. No moving parts to wear-out (no hard drive) – flash disk type memory. Big (A4), well-lighted displays (that sip power) – cell phone technology. The business case is still dodgy (content). This involves copyright, piracy, etc. and is currently been resolved (as we speak). My son’s friend has one. The power indicator is like cell phones – a segmented stalk where the segments disappear as the battery is used-up. He reports that he has read a book on it and he has yet to lose a power segment. Power consumption is even better than I thought (they are rechargeable).

I agree with you. What i want to know is when apartheid was still going on we fought hard to give the same education to black kids as waht white ones were getting. Now everybody is getting “Bantu onderig”?? Who missed the memo? Why were we fighting if they wanted what they were getting.

The final paper was a joke.... far below par with the standard we did in school so it kinda makes sense.

well yes, but there were a lot of confusion last year when I did matric, so much that most of the teachers still taught us most of the old syllabus, I am thankful for that, according to the curriculum we had to know bits and pieces when it came to math and biology its retarded to say the last. While I do doubt the merit of the matric paper that I wrote I don't think my schooling is that bad.

and yes a lot of first years failed math this year, but a few of us did get away with distinctions etc. I feel that there is some gap though.

Basic Text Books in SA are free to the underprivileged too, and what happens to these text books? They get lost, stolen, used for firewood, burnt down with schools etc.. even these basic books cannot be looked after... Now you expect these clowns to look after e-machines? LOL

100% of the underprivileged need to be motivated to learn and get educated. If 5% of them are not, the whole system goes down, bang! Like the current state of the schools etc.. It just takes a small portion of people to intimidate and create utter chaos, ruin years of work of upliftment, and there go the e-machines up in smoke with tyres, text books, schools and teachers cars! Never forget, this is Africa my friend. Until of course the next sucker comes along with another upliftment plan which also just fails...

But your idea never the less is a good one. Some suckers (hopefully ANC Clowns) will buy into the idea, you can get rich!

Well maybe I worded it wrong... If your child is in Grade 6 and you only realize now that he/she is reading at grade 2 level, well then you have not spent much time reading and sitting together with your child.

The problem lies with our school system.

My eldest was in grade 6 and only after having him tested independantly that we realised he was reading at grade 2 level!

I promptly stopped paying my schoolfees and is waiting for them to summons me for it.

The problem is the same as what the cops are battling with....statistics.

Teachers are passing students even if they do not master their subjects. Because it makes them look better on paper.

I still stand by what I said, if your kid can't read its the parents fault. Parents make plans and make sure that certain basic needs are met for their kids.

Yes the new government has fsucked up the education system (considered emigrating?). And if they not teaching your child properly then its your responsibility as a parent to make sure that they get the education they deserve. Stopping payment of schoolfees is not going to help either.

It is a camping trip (roughly) from 2008. They are preparing candles for the sabbath. It is hebrew but i dont think they are kibbutzniks, seems to be video from someone's holiday. It says that they are in the middle of a place called "bush". Hahaha
