So, I'm off to Tanzania next week for a couple of weeks and have been looking at some options itc communication when I'm there. Here's what I found:
  • First of all the exchange rate is R1=230 Tanzanian shillings (http://www.google.co.za/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=rand+tanzanian+shilling)
  • On net calls are charged at 1Tsh per second, ie 60Tsh (or R0.26) per minute.
  • Off net calls are 3Tsh per second, ie 180Tsh (or R0.78) per minute.
  • Calls to SA are 5.80Tsh per second, or about R1.50 per minute.
  • Those are just the standard prepaid rates. Then you can subscribe to special packages, such as 200Tsh for 15 minutes and 200 sms per day.

Nuff said.

EDIT: Vodacom OOB over there is 120 Tsh (R0.52) per MB.

vodacom can't inflate prices over there, ordinary people in the mainland are not as rich as you guys

Vodacom are fvcking thieves.

All that talk of elevating their previous CEO is hogwash. All he did was run a cartel. Vodacom operates in an environment without any real regulation.
