Today, Tuesday 7 March 2017, WikiLeaks begins its new series of leaks on the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. Code-named "Vault 7" by WikiLeaks, it is the largest ever publication of confidential documents on the agency.

WikiLeaks has published what it claims is the largest ever release of confidential documents on the CIA. It includes more than 8,000 documents as part of ‘Vault 7’, a series of leaks on the agency, which have allegedly emerged from the CIA's Center For Cyber Intelligence in Langley, and which can be seen on the org chart below, which Wikileaks also released:

I'm sure it must've been posted somewhere last week.

One document reportedly showed that the CIA was researching ways to infect vehicle control systems. WikiLeaks stated, "The purpose of such control is not specified, but it would permit the CIA to engage in nearly undetectable assassinations."

This statement brought renewed attention to conspiracy theories surrounding the death of Michael Hastings.

On the topic of vehicle control systems, I would be astounded if the software (or firmware) that controls the actual hardware on the car is networked up to the internet. Sure you could hack the pilot section and tell the car to drive somewhere, but the firmware that takes car of driving the car will still try to not harm the passenger. Not exactly sure what the point would be?

I remember seeing somewhere a real live test where some guys DID take over a vehicle -- a modern normal commercial sedan -- off the show room floor
Nowadays cars brakes and accelerator are controlled by wire -- FBW

The point -- as mentioned ASSASSINATION !

Ah, I see. I was thinking ahead to real self driving cars.

What idiot networked the car's internal "wire" (probably the CAN bus)! Stupid fool, we live in a world where if you make something, 20 people try to break it.

Do you not remember a couple of years ago when people were able to remotely hack into Jeeps, giving them full control of the entire dashboard, steering, brakes and transmission functions, Chrysler had to recall 1.4 million vehicles, this was done by two guys.

No, I missed that. That is just crazy. I understand cars have circuits that controls everything these days, I am just astounded that they opened that network up so that you can communicate with it remotely.

It is one thing if someone adds a hardware device to tap into that internal "network", that will be very hard to stop, but just remotely hacking it is a huge lapse in sense by whoever designed that system.
