Cosatu sets aside R10m for independent unit to fight corruption
Sep 28, 2010 10:23 PM | By DOMINIC MAHLANGU and NKULULEKO NCANA
Labour giant Cosatu has set aside R10-million to establish an independent crime-fighting body to investigate corruption in the government and the private sector.
Don't know if R10m is going to be enough, but you got to start somewhere. If the ANC are serious about the NGC noises let them support this. I don't trust anything set up by Zuma's government as the ANC never acts against anyone when that action could lead to political fall-out or affect votes.
The union federation's general secretary, Zwelinzima Vavi, said yesterday that it was registering a section 21 (non-profit) company consisting of a team of lawyers, accountants and auditors to investigate graft.

Speaking at the National Education Health and Allied Workers' Union national conference, in Boksburg, on the East Rand, yesterday, Vavi said Cosatu would ''name and shame'' what he called ''political hyenas'' who used money to advance their dirty agendas.

He said the union's anti-graft unit, which would also include civil society groups and be named ''Corruption Watch'', would conduct initial investigations into all corruption-

related cases brought to its attention by members of Cosatu and its affiliates. Relevant information would be handed over to the police and other investigating agencies.

Hmm, would be nice to know the names of those working. Since it could either be that they'll target just anyone COSATU doesn't like ('counter revolutionaries') or (in an EXTREMELY rare glimpse of hope) actually try and weed out corrupt government officials. Only way I'd know for sure that it's the latter is if it were the ex-Scorpions team.
