VDSL and ADSL2+

I am a little confused here....

I am on ADSL2+ and I thought that VDSL will be available soon in my area. Is this the wrong thinking??
Does it mean that adsl2+ is available where VDSL will NOT be available?

As a side note, which is the best router that currently supports VDSL for future & is backwardly compatible with adsl 2+ for now and has VPN support?

Aah.
I remember when I chatted to charl once he said that MSAN's are there in my area but the problem is getting power to them??
So I'm keeping my hopes up for 40Mbps
Some of the metros (especially Cape Town) refused to supply AC power to certain MSAN sites. Only they know why.

I'm in durbs. You'll think DA was better than ANC!

Nope. Had the same problem in Pretoria, Joburg and PE.

So how did Telkom plan this?
Should they not have consulted with the municipalities before installing the MSAN's
And all the digging to run the fibre optic ...why didn't they run power at the same time ??

It is what happens... wayleave and power requests are submitted at least 6 months prior to anything happening at a site. Metro accepts order and gives approximate date.

Follow up. "On schedule"

Nothing. "Ummm... what order?"

Lol

We should get the squatter camp guys to step in...they know how to get power to a place!

I'm with Mweb 40Mbps VDSL and for the past few days the speed has dropped from about 38Mbps to around 6 Mbps. I thought maybe the 512k router bug could be the issue but it isn't getting back to normal. Who should I start complaining with, Mweb or Telkom? Is there a way to test a different providers VDSL service on trial to see what speeds I get with them?

Are you currently getting shaped by MWEB?
Try Afrihost capped. No shaping.

Question, and don't kill me if it's been asked before... (feeling lazy today).

How can you tell if your exchange is ADSL or VDSL enabled. The Telkom ADSL checker states that the max in my area is 20Mbps

ADSL up to 20Mbps.
VDSL will show as 40Mbps.

Has anyone successfully dealt with 10210 in getting their line on 20Meg ADSL2+? Every agent I speak to insists that 20Meg is VDSL only. I want 20 Meg, my line can handle 20 Meg, but I don't want a VDSL modem if I don't need one.
