I just had my telkom line installed and i got my vdsl line migrated to afrihost. I purchased a vdsl router from afrihost. The huawei HG659.

I received confirmation from afrihost that the internet should be working, but it isnt. The DSL is syncing at the full 40mbps. However when i put in my account details it tells me it cant find an internet connection.

I communicated this to afrihost and eventually phoned them. They said it should be working. I tried on the telkom guest account to no success.

I did a factory reset and found something that might be peculiar. The factory reset didnt change my account details back to default. Is this normal. I cant find much about this modem online so i dont even know if it's correctly configured.

Does anyone have suggestions on what could be the problem? faulty modem perhaps?

This part specifically. Hi

Welcome to the VDSL club.

Once Telkom has finished switching you to VDSL modulation on their side.
Its quite simple with the setup, all you need to do is plug and play.

IF that didn't work then...

Quick Start -> Layer2 Interface: PTM -> Input your username and password from ISP and next step. It should start working now.

and IF that still doesn't work then....

Configuration -> WAN -> Edit the PTM interface -> set 802.1P Priority to 0 and set 802.1Q VLAN ID to 835 -> Apply.

Have you tried the manual settings as per: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/697906-Billion-8800NXL-VDSL-settings

It worked for me...

Thank you so much. After so much blood, sweat, and tears I finally have internet.

For those who have a Huawei HG659.
•Go to your router interface,
•click on internet,
• then scroll down to the VDSL profile and click edit.
•Enable the VLAN then enter the setting in the above link.
put value 0 for 802.1P Priority and 835 for 802.1Q VLAN ID
• Click save and go do the connection wizard.
