Hi folks

Need some info please. The people I have spoken to about this are giving conflicting views.

I currently have a 2mb ADSL line at home (the fastest connection allowed in my area). That is until recently, the Telkom ADSL checker site now says "VDSL (up to 2 Mbps)".

So I have noticed that my line speed has improved drastically. I used to get around 0.7 download speed, now at 1.95.

I have a couple of questions though
– Do I need to do something on my side to change from ADSL to VDSL?
– If so, will it benefit me at all? Seeing that the site states "(up to 2 Mbps)", looks like I am pretty much maxed out then?
– Am I reading this correctly: "VDSL (up to 2 Mbps)", meaning I cant get faster than 2Mbps. That seems kinda silly, why bother with VDSL if you limit me to 2Mbps

Any ideas advice will be greatly appreciated. Line rental through Telkom (2mb package), ISP is Crystal web (Home premium 2mb)

Had a look and:

ADSL Check Results
Ports Available: true
ADSL Support : Yes
Max Speed : 2048 kbps

Congratulations, your ADSL line support speeds up to 2048 kbps

So is it a typo in the Telkom site then? WTH?
My whole area, Farrarmere, Benoni states 2mb VDSL. I know there was talk a while ago that they would have upgraded the exchange to MSAN, but thats over my head, dont know what it means...

Depends what your ADSL stats are, check in your router then post them here.

Look for Down/up stream SNR and attenuation.

Cool will have a look at the stats in the pm and revert here. Thanks gents

VDSL up to 2mbps doesn't sound right.

Mine also showed 2Mbps VDSL last week but it correctly shows 40Mbps now.

It's too bad you don't know what your stats were to compare to what they are now, but from the stats we should be able to figure out well enough the speed you can expect.

Please tell me its good news?

Really bad news I'm afraid, it's basically a miracle you are syncing at that speed in the first place.

I don't even remember if I've ever seen someone with attenuation that high.

No man :(

I had a glimmer of hope

Maar dis mos VDSL.....

Anything I can do about it?

It was just a glitch on their website, it's not VDSL, and there is not a thing you can do except move to another house.

With your current stats you are ~4km from the exchange.

Thanks for trying to help man.

Will make myself a 2Mbps Tshirt and carry on
