So I've just had a VDSL line installed today, but I'm not able to connect to the interwebs at all. This is what I've done so far:

- Telkom installed the line today and gave me a landline number

- I got a fatpipe account from Vox, who sent me an ADSL login/password

- I fired up my router (Trendnet AC750), plugged it into the phone jack, and configured the VDSL setup like this

- Still no interwebs :(

Any help would be much appreciated.

I configured it wirelessly from my Mac.

If I kill the router power, the two wireless networks (2.4GHz/5GHz) hang around for a few moments and then disappear.

Here's another stupid question: if you ask for a line to be installed by Telkom but you tell them you're going with another ISP, do they still activate the line for you? i.e. should I have got an ADSL + line from Vox instead of just the ADSL?

I phoned Telkom to ask for a line activation. All they asked me for was line speed and that it would take 48 hours to activate. Waited 3 days and then applied for Fatpipe online. Connected immediately after doing the usual username, password stuff.

Two weeks later these clowns from Telkom send me a message to arrange to install my line. Send them a no reply but the tech still called me. Told her i did a self install and left it at that.

I can't connect to anything, so I phoned Telkom this morning. They've said the line hasn't been released by the technician (whatever that means) and only once that's done can they activate the line.

It would be helpful if they let you know this stuff beforehand :(

Any way I can make progress on my end without waiting for Telscum?

Okay, so Telkom has activated the line and I'm good to go from their side. However, I still can't get online. So close, yet so far!

I suspect some dodgy router setting is to blame. Here's how it's set up:

Any ideas?

Hi guys. I have D-link DSL-224 VDSL router, and I am trying to get it set up for VDSL, but have been struggling the whole day. My line syncs at 40mbps/3mbps, but I get no internet throughput. I am not even assigned a public IP address by my ISP (tried Afrihost and Vox and Telkom guest account). Both Afrihost and Telkom say that they can see that the line is synced. Afrihost says they are not getting any authentication requests to my capped Afrihost data package. I applied for the line in April/May this year through Arihost, and it was enabled soon thereafter and I've been paying for it ever since, but I am only setting it up now (due to reasons you don't want to know).

Well , you have to change your DSL mode to PTM for starters, and then 802.1P Priority: 0, and 802.1Q VLAN ID: 835

I've already read through the MyBB forums, changed my channel type from ATM to PTM, and 802.1q to enabled with VLAN ID 835, but this hasn't helped. I can't find any setting for 802.1P Priority.

Afrihost support didn't even mention the VLAN settings, and I only found out about here on the MyBB forums after doing some Googleing. Telkom support says I don't need any VLAN settings, they must be left disabled/blank. I am now highly confused and I don't know what the issue is.

I checked with both Afrihost and Telkom, and they both have confirmed that the line is verified. Voice services on the same line work just fine. This line has 2 extensions, one is connected to a POTS filter and then to a fax machine, while the other is connected directly to the VDSL router (no filter needed for router, as it has its own built in filter).

Please assist.

OK for some reason, now the Telkom Guest account works, and I get assigned a public IP, when using the PTM and VLAN 835 settings. Doesn't help me much, coz Afrihost account is still not working. Only thing I change between Afrihost and Telkom guest is the username and password. This booggles me.

Here is the Telkom Guest account working:

Vdsl greenie

Hey all, I upgraded my 4meg line to 10meg. Using d-link vdsl g2562dg router. Internet is working fine, but speed tests are same or less than the 4 Meg. I see adsl is connecting, but vdsl stays in "connecting" state. All settings are still default from Telkom, and Telkom is ISP, and coverage area is up to 40meg vdsl... Should my vdsl be connecting to allow higher speed test results?

10m is not vdsl, it is adsl. Only if you are on 20m can it be switched to vdsl. Also check if you are on a uncapped 4m package - your speed will not go faster then.
