VDSL Overhead

I believe Telkom will only offer > 10Mbps on vdsl or fibre, not adsl2+, and the backhaul must be converted to metro ethernet.

Disagree. Telkom will offer up to 20Mbps ADSL services on exchanges where there are IMAX units or certain DSLAMs, which must be metro ethernet enabled.

Agree.

:D

Thanks guys, always so helpful.

I have asked on Facebook if they can check if our line is capable since we are on Imax (thanks to MTN / Vodac tower?) so come September / October, we can switch.

Looking forward to feedback on that new VDSL modem ranger, Telkom really listening to existing users who are frustrated with the current selection :p

I would like a small VDSL modem that can feed into a decent router, those crappy Pace and Zyxel modem/routers just don't do it for me.

Could some kind person with VDSL run a speed test to a US and a UK server and post the results?

Here is a UK one from my speedtest history, don't have a recent US one.

Yeah must be metro ethernet.... I am connected to a IMAX and its served by a ATM uplink which is so congested that right now on my 4Mbps line I get MAX local speeds with any ISP of 500-600Kbps if I'm lucky with latency on the exchange hop of 400ms......

I wonder why the hell did Telkom ever decide on a ATM uplink. Its very poor future proofing.....

Its so bad that I have to switch the router off and switch my afrihost mifi on so I can use MTN LTE for anything. Even streaming a 128k shoutcast stream is impossible....
