I have a Zyxel p2812 with afrihost capped and line bundle.

Unit and account worked fine in Adsl. I requested line upgrade to 20mbps VDSL and afrihost confirm line is vdsl enabled. Switched router over to vdsl mode and utilised same credentials pppoe , auto dns etc. Unfortunately can not setup an active connection. I have tried every setting variation i am aware of as well as the telkom guest account...still nothing.

Anyone who has been successful in setting up the above and who is willing to share details is entitledto a free beer.

Thanks

Do you get a sync? If not, you are probably too far from exchange to get VDSL as you need to be a lot closer to the exchange.

Hi there,
Have you asked Afrihost or the credentials. I would. Their people are very helpful in configuring routers and did one for me the other day.

Yep, check if you are syncing first - this will tell you if the problem lies with the line or the account.

Buy a PACE from Telkom and set it to ADSL/VDSL mode and it auto detects :)

That mode would not detect ADSL for me, I had to hard set it to ADSL.

Once Telkom had set the line I hard set it to VDSL.

VDSL/ADSL worked fine for me. I threw the Pace out with the empty Nandos food boxes since it's a heap of crap. Netgear FTW, even dropped my reported downstream attenuation by 5db using a better modem.

The only Netgear that I know of that supports VDSL is the 3800B. Is that what you were using ?

PACE is much better than Zyxel, and the nice thing is, Telkom will actually support you for free

I can second the Pace is absolute rubbish. Also no firmware upgrade for the PACE since of lovely Telkom bloatware firwmare. Intermittently freezes dropping wireless, ethernet and internet. Very. Frustrating.

No issues with my Pace unit this side. Think the uptime is somewhere close to 2 months now.
