Hi Guys

im currently on an 8mbps ADSL line, and i want to upgrade to a 20mbps VDSL. Financially it doesnt make sense, where im paying R399 for an 8mbps line, when i could be paying R100 more for a 20mbps VDSL connection.

Is it worth the upgrade, and where does one purchase a VDSL modem? What is the cost for a modem?

If it's viable for you, then I say you should go for it. I think you could just get 20 Mbps ADSL and use your existing modem, but if you have to use VDSL then I think Takealot has modems.

According to Vox's site, if you transfer the line to them, you pay R410 for VDSL.

The thing that is currently stopping me from getting VDSL is the price of these modems :/

Just so that you guys are aware of the risks involved in switching to VDSL if you cannot go faster than 20Mb/s ADSL2+:

After switching to VDSL the line won't sync any more.

Called Telkom and requested that it be reverted to ADSL, but they said a technician will have to be involved to do it, even though I know there is nothing wrong with the line.

The technician just left after having confirmed this, and I just found out now he managed to screw up voice in the process.

Clearly they are not getting training on VDSL as he knew squat about it. His knowledge of ADSL is also lacking as he asked if I checked with my ISP.

Erm, the ISP has nothing to do with the sync process...
