Vdsl

They can't even "get with the program" for plain old ADSL!

On this topic - both my home line and business line are 40Mbps ready (Randburg and Sandton). I have just applied for VDSL but can't find VDSL routers anywhere. I have tried Frontosa, Pinnacle, Miro and Axiz. All the Telkom numbers I phone just go nowhere. Any suggestions?

If my areas max is 1MB how is it that I have 2mb Line and get 200kbps download rates???

I dont think VDSL will reach my area anytime this century!
 
I'm on the Fourways exchange which apparently is an area where the product has been launched.. I'm still sitting on G.DMT, paying for 4mb and syncing at 2.3 /: and at the same time it says my exchange supports 4mbps and isn't VDSL :p 011465**** , and if you don't believe me check it for yourself :)
 
Let me hop on Uniweb and tell you what it shows...
... 011465 is enabled for 20Mbps VDSL. View attachment 41582 . You need to ask Telkom to enable MultiMode on your line. This will increase your speeds. What is your attenuation?

It's terrible! 59db downstream /: I thought I would've been connected to a Fibre Cabinet by now :(
 
Phone Telkom and tell them to reset your DSLAM port. Then to make sure you have functioning filters disconnect every single phone in your house and restart your router. Check your attenuation. If it has improved start plugging in phones and filters to see if it makes a difference.

The checker doesn't work. Mine says 4mb max & I'm running 10mb

This should have changed since the upgrade on Sunday. My attenuation is now 32 well when i checked yesterday.
Have a look let us know if yours has changed as well?
 
After another useless conversation with 4 different Telkom DSL technical support staff I still don't know when I'm getting my 10Mbit line. At the beginning of the year I managed to get through to somebody who told me my exchange would be upgraded by the end of Feb.

Today I call and all they do is use the Telkom ADSL checker on the website (which is notoriously inaccurate) to tell me that I can't get 10Mbit. A phone call to Telkom always spoils my day just because of the sheer incompetence of the people working there.
