Please help urgently with suggestions on a "braai" for a Vegan.

I am supporting a charity for rescued primates and we assist wherever we can and I have arranged a braai for the carers and one is a Vegetarian and the other a Vegan.

Please assist with a dish I could do on a braai for them, the simpler the better.

These guy's/gal's are from Europe and I want them to experience a SA Braai as they do a lot for the rescues and it is much appreciated.

Thanks all

Edit will be on a Weber and half barrel braai on charcoal for ease.

A braai without meat is no South African braai :p

‘Vegan’ and ‘braai’ might sound like an oxymoron. Vegan diets, after all, mean that you have absolutely no animal products. However, with a bit of creativity you can still celebrate National Braai Day, no meat required!

Vegetable Kebabs

Chop up some of your favourite vegetables, such as red peppers, green peppers, mushrooms, onions and zucchini, and then place them on a skewer stick before braaing them. A clever trick to make them even tastier is to douse them in barbeque sauce or herbs and oil beforehand.

Non-Meat Sausages

There are many products available that look like beef or chicken, but have no animal products at all. A great one to try is Fry’s braai style sausages that do not contain any meat, preservatives or genetically modified ingredients. These products are also a great source of fibre and protein.

Braai Potatoes

What is tastier than warm, roasted potatoes? If you love them, then you will also enjoy a potato braai. Pour honey, butter and herbs over a few potatoes or sweet potatoes, then wrap them in foil. Place them on the coals. You can check when they are ready by poking them with a toothpick. If they are soft, they can be taken off.

Vegetable Bread

Bread is a delicious braai staple. Fill a bread loaf with a potato and vegetable mixture and then place it on the coals to toast. You can even make braai broodjies (braai sandwiches) with slices of bread. On one slice, layer any foods of your choice, such as a tomato, cheese and cucumbers. Place the second slice on top and then pop it on the grill. When the one side is toasted, flip the sandwich over and toast the other side. Mmm, yum!

Maybe some mushroom, pepper and haloumi sosaties?

Also, would you need to wash the grid with soapy water to get the old meat off before prepping for them?

Corn on the cob, "cauliflower steak" (basically a thick cut of a head of cauliflower), potatoes (get some dairy free margarine too). Fry's burgers, sausages, etc. rolls (check for dairy or egg in ingredients). You may want to get some tinfoil in case there is no separate braai grid (depends on whether or not they have an issue with contact or not). Some Sriracha also goes a long way. Humus is always good too (even as a butter substitute if you can't find an alternative).

Great idea but without the halloumi as this is goats milk and I think it's a no no.

Great ideas coming thanks guy's i new I could count on MYBB Buddies to get my mind around the Vegan issue.

And yeah a braai isn't a braai without lekker vleis......... @Ninja'd

Woolies also sell vegetarian patties etc., though (as @cguy mentioned above) Fry's market a full range of vegetarian foods, including sausages/patties/etc.: check with your local supermarket.

BTW there is a world of difference between a vegetarian and a vegan. That said, I find that (even in the vegetarian community) both terms tend to be used very loosely. My advice is to ask your guests what they will eat - it's unlikely that they will be offended.

Finally, cook the vegetarian food on a clean grill - the fat exuded by meat & wors is a killer.

Frys - vegan sausages, patties, etc.

Beware of Qorn - some of the products have egg in it.

You also get a mat (think it is called grill mat) that you can place on the grid - fireproof, washable and obviously re-usable.

but will they die ?

vegans eat stuff that naturally fall from place of origin right?

Just say the goat, where the milk for the halloumi came from, was lactating....

Vegans (a.k.a. strict vegetarians) generally also refrain from consuming all animal-derived products e.g. milk/eggs/etc.

Thanks all much appreciated.

I am sure the primates that are rescued will benefit further from a happier carer even those rescued from labs etc.

but will they die ?

Tastes really awful and normally results in [extreme] diarrhea, the latter 'cos the gut flora used to digest meat no longer exists in a vegetarian's stomache.
