Vehicle licence renewal. NB

In this day and age, all of this should be done automatically over the Internet.

What exactly should be done over the internet?

The license renewal notification? Yes

Paying for it? Hell, they only want cash, would be nice if they took cards.

The license disk printout? Erm :erm:

In Cape Town I've been doing it online or probably five years now.

It's retarded that they try to hold back your license for a fine not to mention illegal I believe.

So a guy who already isn't paying a fine...now you don't want to issue him a license disc...that's logical and you'll even see less money.

Especially with insurance companies backing the E-toll drama stating they only require a vehicle to be licensed not up to date on the disc.

License renewal notification should come to the e-mail address you have on the system.
You then log into the web site and click renew and pay via credit card.
The License disc is then sent to you by registered post.

Simple.

Do you realize how many jobs at DMV country wide will be lost if this use case and IT investment were to materialise.
Government will never let it happen.
Even if it's progressive....

Update: I went to the licensing office in Marlboro.
Went straight to counter will all my forms and the traffic fine.
Paid the fine, R60 courtesy letter, another R60 infringement letter.

Then renewed Licence on 3 vehicles.

1st Lesson learnt: don't ignore fines
2nd lesson - don't overtake slow truck that is crawling on a uphill on the left side just before an off ramp.

Did they take a pic or were you pulled over?

Does anyone know why the traffic department will refuse to take payment using a credit card?

I went to the Marlboro branch. All tellers have credit card machines. These machines are powered up. But the person behind counter will tell you that the credit card machine doesn't work and must pay cash.

It's been three years in a row that this has happened to me.

Something tells me there is something fishy going on at the traffic departments. How are they handling so much cash? Is all this cash being reconciled to payments recorded? Is the cash being banked? Or taken elsewhere? Worst still....Laundered?

My City works for me
