Anyone got experience with either or can recommend a worthy alternative?

Yes, I want my vehicle back. I want early warning and tamper alerts. I don't want to be zero-one down to motor thieves. So I am looking for a worthy product/service.

CarTrack

Apart from their pricing - which seems to be marginally less than Matrix - they also offer a recovery warranty of R150K. Ts & Cs of the warranty are logical and acceptable (i.e. there is no planned skullduggery by CT).

Matrix

They appear to have decent featured including the early warning (I want), additional functionality like a smartphone app and dedicated recovery teams.

CTrack

Quite similar to Matrix. They add a logbook which I don't need right now, high risk area monitoring (might be good if I hijacked and held hostage in the vehicle).

Thanks in advance.

I've got a 13 year old Matrix unit in one of my vehicles, and had a car track unit bomb out after 18 months, never had a days issue with any vehicle fitted with Matrix products

I am by Discovery too. Except my new vehicle they want a ridiculously high premium. Almost much so my repayments. MiWay are a quarter of their price (just for the vehicle). Leaving all other at Discovery. I would like to stayed with them and would have taken the CTrack offer.

Surely you couldn't have just forgotten Tracker?

I've got Tracker Skytrax fitted, had it in all my cars and never had an issue (or had to use it in a hijack - *knock on wood*).

I have https://www.beam-e.com/ R59 a month. Discounted rate you get with kingprice.

I had forgotten about these lads.

They're good - it's just that they don't allow their results to be audited or verified by someone other than their own. I will take a look at Skytrax.

Sorry to hijack your thread... I recently saw thieves strip one of the new Toyota Fortuners and found the tracking unit. Now my question is, can one fit more than 1 tracking unit on the same vehicle? Say a Matric and and Ctrack?

You're most welcome to continue the conversation :)

I am not sure if it is possible to install 2 GSM devices in the same vehicle. You can fit, say, Matrix and something else which isn't GSM. An example of a non-GSM device, iirc, is Tracetec.

They advertise that you can fit their device virtually anywhere in the vehicle, trailer or motorcycle. This is because it doesn't need an external power supply, i.e. it has it's own battery & power supply. Their device (iirc) works on RF, which is the biggest difference to their way of recovering a vehicle. (I recall a story where they recovered a motorcycle, which has been stolen, that had been disassembled and stored on the first or second storey in a building.)

mmm Makes sense... But now do I really want my stolen vecle back??? Something to think about. Thanks for the feedback. Will explore and see it it is worth it.

You can even have multiple GPS tracking devices in your car if you want, no problem. Tracker doesn't uninstall if you cancel or change vehicles, they just send a deactivation signal. At one time my one car had three different GPS tracking devices in it (two active and one dead), no issues.
