Vendors explore EDGE Internet

And how do you use this EDGE (or GPRS or whatever) to connect your PC to your phone so you can do this, by buying a ridiculously overpriced cable? By having to buy a bluetooth dongle that costs 3 times as much as a internal winmodem (if your phone supports bluetooth)?

And then there is the fact that most of the bundles work out more than what Telkom charges (seeing most people try to limit themselves to callmore time) and with the bundles you get charged (or your bundle ends quicker) for every little megabyte of usage by that silly spam/joke/hoax e-mail you recieved.

depends on your needs. if you're a "power user" then no, this will not be for you.

if, however, you use the internet for casual browsing and checking email, this actually works very well, especially when compared to dial-up - no isp charges, no separate charges for dialing in, faster speeds (edge)... definitely a viable alternative, imo.

try spending a lot of time on this forum with a dial-up connection, for instance.
not easy on the wallet :)

Yep... cost...

"No additional ISP fees"
What a joke - all this means is that the ISP and network provider are the same. You pay both fees in one... and if you really want to use it... well... it's simply more expensive.

Having said that, I have opted for an MTN EDGE card with mychoice 75 and a 100meg bundle for when I'm on the road. Beats telkom hands down.

No monthlies if you don't actually use it, but at Rx per meg, after a gig it gets expensive not so? Just a comparison - but then it is portable. Pros and cons. But the point is - they are an ISP... they are a network provider. You pay for both, but yeah - with prepaid, you only pay for what you use... Good point. Oh... btw - how much for modem/phone? I was quoted R2000 for an edge PCMCIA modem without contract.
