3 long beeps supposed to be a RAM issue.

Tried different RAM, different PSU, removing the GPU, Turning on with nothing but CPU and RAM plugged in.

Same result (3 long beeps and a blank screen).

Any other suggestions?

Could be the RAM slots then, but 3 long beeps can also be a faulty keyboard AFAIK.

I take it you have already removed the CMOS battery for a while ?

Yea and tried a reset.

Tried without anything (including keyboard) plugged in. lol I am typing with said keyboard as we speak.

Oh well, boss says I can get an i5 and double my ram to 8GB so guess it will work out ok.

just try blowing out the ram slots, might be a bit of dust there...Have you tried with one stick of ram, testing it in each slot?

:D ... just admit it, you broke it on purpose

:p

LOL no, I loved that pc :(

All the effort involved getting Vista, Ubuntu and my xp vm all set up properly again is really not worth the upgrade to me. At least my 3d scanner will work better.

Blew out the slots with a compressor attached to an air drier and several water traps. (we use it for various machines that can not have any air in them).

Tried the RAM from the machine in a different pc, works fine. Tried different ram on the motherboard, still dead.

I can safely say that we can rule out the RAM...

What are the chances, I had exactly that issue last Thursday.
Sent my mobo in for it's overdue SandyBridge swapout, so will see if the new one also beeps. If so, I'm presuming it's my RAM, though the chances of 2 chips dying at the same time seems slim.

Also failed.

Mobo for the junkheap, rest for spares, upgrade for me.

This might sound strange but remove the motherboard from the case and wrap it up in tin foil for 45 minutes and try it again
You can do this with Vga cards as well , we found that this will discharge any static on the board.

Also a fail.

pc was on and in use when it died.

Not the newest of motherboards and has seen a good deal of service over the years.

I always thought Intel motherboards were very reliable :(

Never have had a motherboard fail on me (DOAs is all I've had thus far), though I haven't bought Intel motherboards since the Pentium 3. Last few boards have all been Asus and Gigabyte.

Board sounds dead tho, was it moved at all before it started this? Or just one morning it did that?

Had this 2 weeks ago... Never got to the bottom of it. Either memory slots or something else mobo related. Mobo swap out did the trick.
