Very happy with ADSL

Crazy, you are missing the point - overall, 128k isdn may be a better solution for video conferencing, BUT, your phone bill will be insane. Some of us don't spend all day at the office / working. Even assuming he only uses it in the evening, the R7 plan will cost him abour R210 - and that's only for a 12/7 connection - not very practical?

Oh wow R210 for 12 hours worth of access? I think that is practical indeed , maybe you are missing the point? For R210 a month i could download much more than 3gigs of data and confrence and play games and so forth.. no.. you are just being ripped off as everyone else is, including me.

Take them down.

Slowly digging through the forum to catch up. Honestly... I've had single channel ISDN, dual channel ISDN and now I have ADSL, I don't regret changing over to ADSL at all, I now have for an extra R400 24 hour internet access, luckily though I share my connection with people in my building, and it is really worthwhile for us. At R200 each, we all get exactly what we want. Cheap fast Internet, if we want to get other stuff, we walk out of our house and go use the varsity network (for MP3's and the like). When I eventually do not have it anymore- its going to be quite an adjustment.

Yes, telkom IS giving us a "good deal" with ADSL if you have to COMPARE it to their other services. But we don't WANT to compare it to their other services, because it's also sh*t. Paying 65c per 3 minutes for a local call... what the hell's that all about. The point is: Telkom is not ripping us off if you compare it to their other crappy services, compare it to similar countries, and they're satan.

noticing a lot of new users in the last 2 weeks who deligently defend telkom's views.
interesting aint it?[|)]

New service by Telkom broadband speeds up to 5kbps for only R1k a month. heheh

Glad to see different point of views,
to a certain extent i agree. My ADSL was awesome when i got it, i was very happy with the connection speeds and at that time the cap had not been implemented yet. I bacame less happy after the cap but i could manage and was still happy with my quality of connection, some of my friends were still on ISDN and i definately had the superior connection.
Then the port prioritisation came into effect and suddenly my connection was not so good anymore, more subscribers also started loading the allocated bandwidth for ADSL users and my speed dropped further. In the beginning i could get my 540 Kb any time of the day and it never went under 500. These days i always get less than 100Kb and usually in the week i get around 40Kb. My connection is now worse than a ISDN and probably worse than a 56k modem. Only after about 7PM on a friday do i start to get speeds again in teh range of 100Kb.
That R75 000 Taz became a R75 000 Bicycle with a puncture :(

I can fully relate with you Dtox. Although I've had my ADSL connection for a shorter period than you, I have seen a vast decrease in quality since I first got it. Right in the beginning I was incredibly happy with it, but as time has gone by, I've become increasingly frustrated with both Telkom's service and attitude.
