Ok first of to my system specs

Q9450 @ 2.66 overclock to 3.2GHz
Zalman cnps 9700 cpu cooler
Cooler master cm 690 with all the fans and the also the one at back of cpu(80mm)
MSI p45-plat

My cpu cores are idleing at 50C a and I think should be less than 45C at least.

ambient temp is like 25C so not that hot. maybe I should get some good thermalpaste for my cpu cooler or get a better cooler. any suggestions? also any more info needed just tell me.

If I need a better cooler please suggest me one.

Dude your cpu temps look normal

What are your individual core temps? I'm running a Q9550 2.83Ghz @ 3.4Ghz. The 4 cores are at 43C, 30C, 32C and 34C when idle. Ambient is 29C.

During 100% load with Prime95 I get 54C, 48C, 47C and 51C. I'm using the Zalman CNPS9500, so I don't think it's your CPU cooler. Try re-applying the thermal paste. I'd recommend you avoid silicone based compounds and rather use silver or aluminium based compounds, which have better heat conductivity. Avoid using too much thermal paste.

What the hell is with that discrepancy...? Reminds me, I have one core that is also waaay hotter than the others when Idle but its the second coolest when under 100% load:confused:

ok I've just did reply some thermal paste and my temps are now 43 43 38 38 on idle

And others. :D
Waiting for some G571 and X23 shin-etsu stuff to arrive. I'll be avoiding the conductive pastes this time round.

I think the reason for the discrepancy is that most applications and services only use one core to run, so that one core will always be hotter than others. I think you can redistribute processes to different cores using the Affinity Settings in Task Manager, although I've never tried it.

Wanted to try some coollaboratory liquid but the base of the new heatsink has aluminium in it so I can't. Maybe next time around:)

No....0% load on all cores. It's just hotter. It's not even the core that primarily does the single threaded applications.

What processor are you running again?
If Intel then check out IndigoExtreme.
They let me know that there'll be one available for AMD come month end. Just waiting for the H50 now 'cos they want to know how it sits on the AMD to see if there stuff will work.

Weird indeed. Just check processor usage, also at 0%, so I guess that throws that theory out the window.
Strange thing is the core never goes lower than 43C, and doesn't really seem to fluctuate like the other three cores, unless the load increases.

Q9550(same as genetic).
The indigo stuff looks very interesting. Are there any independent review out..? And do you know if its available locally...?
