Yes and no.

I feel that the speed limits are largely there for the lowest common denominator which makes a whole lot of sense sure.

But if you are driving a modern and well maintained car and especially if you've had some professional training...then you aren't the lowest common denominator are you?

It's all very circumstantial. Doing more than 50% of what everyone else is doing on crowded highways is going to make for ***.

If everyone is doing 150 and you are doing 120...then you are more of a hazard than they are.


And if you are getting camera caught on an abandoned highway in the middle of nowhere...that's just plain exploitation.



There's a time and a place for everything, judging that time and place is the real problem most people have.

I recently went through something like this. I also exceeded the limit of 60 on the N12 just after one of the small towns, I basically increased my speed too early after going through the town and got caught. I normally try to stick to the speed limit but this time I did not. I can honestly say I did not race or do it intentionally, but I did it non the less. It is easy to do something stupid like this.

Lesson learned. This is a terrible experience to go through and I can honestly say that I will in future do my best to stick to the speed limit.

As for what you will go through, well it depends on the municipality you got caught in. The normal procedure is to appear before a magistrate, plead guilty, present mitigating factors, get a fine and if you are luck leave without a criminal records. I can however tell you that it is not as quick and easy as my explanation sounds.

EDIT: I did 93 in a 60 zone and got no fine. I had to appear in court.

Cant tell other than the quote snippets what Nangi is saying(added to ignore list ages ago) but Im guessing it has to do with excess speed.
The Darwin awards always catch up with speeders, just have to hope no innocent lives are lost in the process.
 
The point im putting accross here is that speeding is made out to be the greatest sin, with all other factors ignored. I'd rather be in a speeding roadworthy car with a sober driver than in a car following speed limits with a drunk driver/worn out tyres, etc.

Im not saying its right, but the way people like judging someone who doesnt always follow the speed limit as if they follow all the road rules is ridiculous... especially on this forum.

@Rocketboy not sure if im supposed to cry myself to sleep because you added me to your ignore list? If you ignore me then why bother replying on the thread? Guessing you might not even see this... oh well

Its not the greatest sin, but you don't accidentally drive 180, so no reason to cry about the "evil fines"...

And if you think the car is "safe at that speed", you lack an understanding of physics, which is not an issue in itself, it just means your opinion is of less value than someone who does understand physics. And does everyone who goes that speed examine their car thoroughly before each time, lift it up on a hoist to see that every bit of car is in tip top shape? And good luck controlling all the other road users and factors... if you can, you can be declared God
