Hi there,

I signed up for a contract at MTN on Saturday. They said it takes +- 2 days to be approved for the contract.

Is this correct?

Thanking you,
Neuk.

Technically it should only take about 30minutes... But you must remember how many other prospective new clients need to be vetted, so 2days sounds about right.... Mine also took about that long, and that was about 5years ago....

I got a new contract from MTN and it took about two days, it may have been because I got it on a Friday. I think it takes longer if you are a new customer-dont have any existing contracts with them.

2 Days sounds a bit hectic. With us...if your paper work is in order and your ITC clear and you meet our criteria......you come in and walk out with your phone and new contract sim.

I guess I would say 30 minutes or so.

I seen this happen before at Vodacom, if the shop ain't too busy, vetting happening sommer on the spot.

And if you want the Blackberry they try to force down your throat.

I went to one of MTN's bigger branches & got my upgrade done on the spot. Took about an hour.

My first contract was about 2-3 days to get, but my upgrade was immediate. So I think it is only if you are an first time client that you have to wait that long.

Whether you want it or not, they still try sell you a Blackberry. Went in to enquire what options they had for the Galaxy ACE and the lady was like "dont get that phone get a Blackberry, its so much better, you can use Facebook and Twitter on it" o_0

:wtf:

Then I went to a better branch :)

They started with the specials first. Then asked if I wanted to look at BB & I said no so the BBs were left out of the rest of the conversation :p

They also did that with me. I went in and I told them I am either getting an SGS or an iPhone and they were like "Why don't you try the BB Torch". I mean I would think that if someone comes in with a set of specific phones that he has already done all the research about the phone he would want to get. I get up-selling and all that, but first off those two phone I wanted were more expensive so they really didn't up-sell and they I would think having to buy an additional data bundle would be more beneficial for the company.

Maybe those branches had an excess of BB stock that they could not move :(
I have heard from many people that the new BBs are not great as far as the battery is concerned & I guess they are sitting with far too much stock now. IMO they should have sent that stock back & rather get faster moving stock.

but this 'advising' to get a BB seems to be the trend at all the stores, MTN and vodacom (cant speak for the others dont have contracts with them), even if you know exactly what you want, the inevetibly bring a BB

Same here for taking out additional contracts and upgrading.
