VGA Card Wararnty Question

Hi Guys

Just want to get the forums thoughts on this matter.... I dunno if i'm being unreasonable or just expecting too much, or maybe just plain crazy... :confused:

If you had bought a $350 card and had it fail after 2yrs, now the supplier turns around and says to you, because the ZAR has collapsed, we are only willing to replace it with a card that has somewhat similar specs but is only priced at $200.... do you guys also think that is rubbish or do you think its quite acceptable, to replace what still is a pretty decent card with something that is now considered rather on the low end of the spectrum barely considered a gaming card...

mind you to prove the point even further.... while $350 cost me R4k in 2012, $330 nowadays is costing us R6k I mus pay in another R2k just to get a card at the same price point/performance category as the card that failed...
 
Off topic, haven't heard the term "VGA card" for ages, a blast from the past...
 
Given the way graphics card performance seems to ramp up every year, it does seem odd that you would have to pay more to get a card of similar performance.
 
They should replace with same or better, or give your money back. If they would rather give you money back, unfortunately for you if it doesn't help much in the current market.

Edit: usually if they don't have warranty stock anymore, they will likely give you credit.
 
Surely at the 2 year mark the card would go back to the manufacturer, and the cost would not be felt by the store at all? Something doesn't seem right here...

Yeah, I would have thought a factory defect would be born by the manufacturer, unless the seller was doing something dodgy about the way he procured the card and the original warranty won't be honoured.

Local importers for the brand will swap it out for you no need to deal with international suppliers. Doesnt matter if its a grey import unless you with Apple.
 
vga card/graphics card/thingy that makes games look pretty :whistle: was a MSI 660 TI Power Edition... the distributor felt that a 960 would be a suitable replacement for the card even though the 970 is priced the same as the 660 TI when it was released and the 960 is currently going for under $200 on most places I looked, besides the fact that most reviews have trashed the card as a major disappointment... yes it has the same memory and comparable gpu performance... but in my mind would be taking a step backwards in relation to bang for buck

so anyways my thoughts were the same as some of you guys... the importer doesn't buy the card in ZAR's they buy in USD, so the credit coming from the manufacturer means that they gonna be scoring on top of the extra i'm reluctantly having to pay to get the 970... the retailer is a mate of mine so they've been pretty open with me about how the importer/distributor has responded and like some of you guys have said above... they pretty much said "you can have the 960 (when the new stock arrives in 2 weeks time of course) or your money back... your choice..."

You are complaining because they are offering you a newer & better GPU? :rolleyes:

The price is irrelavent, as the cost of GPUs go down while the performance goes up.
 
I would take the credit, then add funding to it to get the bigger card you feel you need. Expecting to get the same monetary value is difficult as cost to manufacture goes down over time [speaking $$ here] The 960 is in theory the successor for the 660 / 760 range, however as you have mentioned it is badly reviewed, with some stating to rather hold unto their 760's. This is the first release of the 960, in time better tweaked versions will come out, perhaps get your credit and hold out for those models.

Bwahaha! You expect them to swap a 660ti for a 970?! Lol!
And a 660ti was NEVER R5k+! Unless you bought it from incredible corruption!

Exactly.
If they had stock of 660ti and gave him a like for like swap, he'd still bitch about it. He should be grateful, the 960 is literally years ahead of the 660ti

I wish they would dig around a bit harder to find him a 660ti, would be priceless to see his disappointment :D
