Video Calls

Hi,

This is my first post. Congrats on a very informative forum.

Does anybody know if it is possible to do cross network video calling at the moment, or not?
If not, any idea on when this will be possible?

HI all....dont quote me on this but my feeling would be a resounding NOOOOOOOOO.....tell u y?? sure?? rather an example would paint a clearer picture...rememnber when the craze was MMS it was only available between the same network (and free)...y? because they were testing it to see if it was workin for their clients then eventually it filterd in nicely and we could all play...now Mtn has launched and if you look at an earlier post Video calling will be free for the interim which to me reads more like "it will be free till we are sure we can have our base sorted then we charge once shes alive".Same thing different name really...like i said just guessing.and yes HiltM probably when everyone is sure where their ducks are then once again we could all play.....use it dont use it ...whatever.

You could also argue that it increases sales of 3G contacts/handsets - the more people that want to try the latest craze of video calling, the more 3G handsets will be sold...

The MMS analogy is correct. For inter-network services not only must the technical issues be sorted out but the billing ones as well. This normally takes some time and as MTN only launched a few days ago, I would not expect it soon.

Welcome to MyADSL Boberito. Its not possible at the moment - purely because the "interconnect" agreements haven't been signed. Last I heard : the interconnect was still being negotiated. It hasnt even been to ICASA yet. Bottom line : Dont hold your breath...
