Okay, so I have been asked to build a video editing PC for someone and would like some advice on the parts and if it will be good enough. The Budget is 10k.

CPU - INTEL CORE I7 3770
MOBO - ASUS P8Z77-M-LE
GPU - ASUS NVIDIA GTX650 1GB DDR5
PSU - UNIQUE 600W ATX
RAM - 2X KINGSTON HYPERX BLU 4GB DDR3
HDD - SEAGATE BARRACUDA 1TB 7200RMP
SSD - OCZ VERTEX 4 64GB
K/B & MOUSE - MICROSOFT WIRED DESKTOP 400 COMBO
OPTICAL DRIVE - LG DVD WRITER 24X
CASE - CM RC-K280-KKN1 BLACK
CPU COOLER - CM HYPER 212 EVO

Thanks.

What video editor are you planning to use? That can affect the hw spec. Also, sometimes ATi cards are better for video editing ...

You will need better GPU, more RAM and more HDD.
If your going to use adobe products for video editing... min 24gb ram will be needed

Ditch the cooler as it is only necessary for overclocking and as above use the extra funds for way way more RAM

Once you have enough RAM, you need as close to an infinite amount of DISK and CPU and you can get.

Plus a decent second monitor. Video NLE on a single display is nearly impossible.

Surely Mac's are better for video editing

LOL *sits back and awaits fanboi responses*

Throw out that graphics card, pointless. Replace it with a Quadro (my preference) or Firepro graphics card and lower your PSU as you wont be needing that much power relatively. Max the ram and HDD size. Also you don't require "gaming" class ram, the cheaper value ram is fine. If ram was to be an issue, you would be getting ECC ram and not lower latency ram.

Inertia? very profound...yet totally blind to the cult...Steve Jobs was probably the worlds best silent and brainwashing cult leader of the 21st century. It's the only way to explain the Apple phenomenon. Why someone would consciously pay double the price for an Apple product as opposed to any other brand still blows my mind...it's the Apple cult...
Either way, each to their own (And no, im not a MS fan either...)

This looks like a gaming pc, ditch the case, get a cheaper one, up RAM to at least 16gigs normal desktop will do, amd gfx cards are slightly better for video rendering.
Also depends on the editing software, currently using Serif movie plus 6 and so far it's not bad. Had cyberlink power director and also tried Sony Vega, Serif is half the price and does the same.

Thanks for the replies. The video editing softwares that are going to be used are After Effects and Premiere Pro. I'll drop the case and get a cheaper one. Drop the cooler, change the gfx card to ATI, smaller PSU and get more RAM and post the new specs.:)

Post an updated quote.

Steve Jobs was probably the worlds best silent and brainwashing cult leader of the 21st century.

Would also explain why 18 months after his death people still bring him up in a thread totally unrelated to Apple or Jobs. :p

Get a better case and PSU, I wouldn't be surprised if that PSU blow the second you switched on the Pc.

You can do wonders with one monitor, as long as it's large enough. 30 inches works great.

Ironically since Apple made Final Cut Pro into iMovie Pro, that's become more true than before. But that's only happened 1-2 years ago.
Also Mac Pros haven't been updated for a long time. Which does make them slow by comparison.

But Final Cut Pro (old version) and Adobe Premiere Pro for Mac still work great on Macs. 3rd party hardware cards and storage is also available. Thunder bolt ports also work great for editing.

What you've got will use roughly 400 watts, so 500 will be fine, also the case is fine for getting the best out of the rest of the hardware.

That still haunts me. Apple are weird that way! But I still prefer older Final Cut versions to anything Adobe Premier.
