Video iPods in SA within two months

Given the current bandwidth resitrictions this product will sell much less that it would have been had our market been more relaxed.
 
That picture looks nothing like it!

Why is it talking so long to arrive here? Guess its off to Amazon.com if I wanted one - which oddly enough I dont.

As its replacing the existing 20gb and 60gb models (thats why they're calling it just the iPod and not the Video iPod or something else) sales will be just fine here. You can always upload your own content to it. Quicktime 7.0.3 already has the settings.

Also the downloadable series available to US customers ;) are only 198mb in size - much smaller than the not-as-legal downloads currently available - but you pay the price in quality. http://www.tuaw.com/2005/10/13/video-quality-what-1-99-will-buy-you/

qDot : "bandwidth resitrictions" have nothing to do with it. There isn't an South African iTunes Music Store yet (Thank SonyBMG for that. Boycott their albums untill they stop being %$##'s). That is why people wouldn't be able to download the shows.

Then again, you can just put on your own content as bwana said

I was thinking about how quickly video podcasts would chow my quota when I was responding to that.
 
DigiCape is a rip off company. I had an iPod 3rd gen remote and headphones which packed in while still under warranty last year, drove to DigiCape in CT
from work (20km away), they refused to honour the warranty despite a
proper invoice from ZA STORE, well within 1 year. They called it - normal wear and tear. My other iPod's earphones/remote (bought an earlier iPod on Ebay for 50% less than ZA STORE) had no issues. So much for wear and tear.

In the US the 60Gb version = R2600, in SA it's R3 762 LOL!
It's so much easier to go on Ebay and just PayPal that R2600 + 400 for Insured EMS... customs fee would be R364.

Finally about buying eps, at $2 per EP, it's cheaper to buy the given series
on DVD. I'm on 56K and I buy stuff I enjoy on DVD - download very little (hehe) however it works out cheaper and with the new ADSL pricing, maybe
legal purchases will go up in number.

I went to Digicape and an 40GB iPod Photo that I purchased in the States while on holiday. My iPod was dead and charging would not help, so I was extremely worried about loosing all my holiday photo’s, but after providing the necessary paperwork for warranty, they had no problem replacing my iPod for me under warranty and surprisingly transferred all my music data (and photo’s) to my replacement without any charge to myself. Their professionalism and service was second to none and I would have to recommend everyone who lives in the Western Cape to use them. I can only imagine if they did not help you as you say and replace your head phones, that they must have been damaged beyond what one would call normal wear and tear and that you actually damaged the headphones in some way.
 
Welcome to the forum Legolasza though with so much going on in the forum I'm surprised your first post to the forum would involve resurrecting a post thats been dead for a couple of months.

Do they really have stock? Usually the line goes that you will get the item the next day IF they have it in stock. Otherwise you have to wait for them to import it.
 
I'll be buying a 60 gig video ipod in the US in a couple of weeks - cost = $399 (R2540.00) - or R1200 cheaper than those local guys.

(with the difference - $188 (just to show what their so-called markup 'means'
- and bear in mind their original purchase price is already cheaper than the 'customer' prices)
with $188 in your pocket in the US, you could buy either :

- x2 1 gig sd mem card + a keyring sized 'wifi network locator',
- or 2 ipod shuffles, (with another $10 addition)
- or 3 Phillips DVD players
- or TWO portable colour TV's,(look at TV's under $200 at

-or, for another $12, a new Tivo (40 hour capacity)
-or one handheld TV and 1 portable TV,

that's just some examples of what the local so-called 'markup' means you can't buy. Keep in mind of course the local guys are buying products at overseas retail prices, already massively cheaper - then adding their supposedly 'legitimate' markup prices.
