Views on the new M5

Let me hear your views on the new M5 http://www.bmw.co.za/products/automobiles/m/m5sedan/overview.asp

Specs at a glance:
  • Cylinders/valves - 8/4
  • Capacity cm3 - 4395
  • Stroke/bore mm - 88.3/89
  • Output/engine speed kW/rpm - 412/6000-7000 (previous M5 was 373kW/7 750rpm)
  • Max. torque/speed Nm/rpm - 680/1500-5750 (previous M5 was 520/6100)
  • Compression ratio :1 - 9.3
Unladen weight EU kg - 1895
Acceleration 0-100km/h - 4.4s

My views:
Likes - significant increase in peak torque; DCT standard, lots of other standards (like HUD, etc);

Dislikes - use of turbos?? (obviously a win if you're driving up at the highveld);
8cyl not a 10cyl; Shape not very aggresive (where's the 'boggel'?); hope they sorted out the overheating problems experiences in the X5,6M
 
Amazing car, love the shape but also not too sure about the 8cyl turbo engine. It is powerful though... Now bring on the new M6 convertible :)
 
The old 10 cylinder is just unbelievably good!
The new powerplant has big shoes to fill.
But when it comes to engines i wouldn't doubt or underestimate BMW.
 
Force fed is the future. I'm glad that Beemer is finally coming to the party. Now they just need to replace the horribly-under-powered-in-Joburg 320i and 323i with turbo'd versions and they'll continue on the right track.
 
I think it is absolutely incredible. I'm not a huge BMW fan, but love their M cars, and this is just another great example. Wish I had enough moola to own one though :(
 
Clarkson mentioned this a few sesons back on Top Gear, apparently its Turboed for lower emissions
 
Brilliant, finally the M division is going back to what is right with the M-series vehicles.

They're aggressive, but not absolutely miles away from the series that they're supposed to be a part of.

They are replacing the current straight sixes with turbocharged fours. That means all 20s and 23s will be charged 4s. The current 3l straight is is also being replaced by a Turbo four... all of these will be slightly more powerful than the engines they are replacing

No... not mid bar... the new 650 convertible is 1.15, the m5 should be 100k to 150k more, 1.3 max. Crapload of money...
 
Not liking it. The previous generation had a fantastic v10 engine sound like a F1 engine
 
the prices are more or less the same in germany compared to SA, and the M5 is 102k in germany.. soo i am guessing around 1 million.. brilliant car though! who is going to the joburg international motorshow in 4 weeks ?? bmw will have the car there.. cannot wait to see it
 
ok, just looked at the different prices of the normal 5 series, theres a permanent R100k difference in price between all the models. 520i is R390.900 and here it is R500.000 and the 550i is R700.000 there and R850.000 here...

however, in the US, the 550i starts at $62000 which is.. roughly.. R430.000 .. does this make any sense?? no... is it unfair? hell yes :(

I've always thought the M5 encapsulates everything you want in a car. This version enforces my view.
