Views on the new M5

Amazing performance. I think most BMW's look too much alike though which is why I wouldn't get one. From 30m out it is hard to tell the difference between models.

That was the whole point of the M series vehicles from the start if you ask me..

They're understated and will absolutely munch almost anything you put in front of them.

ok, just looked at the different prices of the normal 5 series, theres a permanent R100k difference in price between all the models. 520i is R390.900 and here it is R500.000 and the 550i is R700.000 there and R850.000 here...

however, in the US, the 550i starts at $62000 which is.. roughly.. R430.000 .. does this make any sense?? no... is it unfair? hell yes

Us doesn't pay import duty and vat (most states). We pay both on cars (import duties on foreign cars only of course). Still, there is a big difference. Cars in the usa are also cheaper than in Europe by the way!

Current m5 is 1.05m, expect new one to be +-1.17

Besides that, the public transport system is far superior hence a car is a luxury rather then a necessity for MOST in the US(1st world), where as here in South Africa (3rd world) it's the other way around.

Yes but that has little to do with the pricing, especially when it comes to luxury cars

The M5 is a quantifiably superior car to its predecessor. Some things can't be quantified, however, such as the sublime joy of a sky-high redline and the sound of an expensive precision instrument winding up to reach it. And therein lies BMW's conundrum, and ours. We're all for more-efficient, more-powerful torque monsters, but perhaps not at the expense of personality.
