Vintage Computers

Still looking at purchasing an Amiga 500 / 1200 or even big box editions.

Anyone willing to sell, please dm me. Thanks
Amiga 500's do come up every now and then if you're patient but you'll probably find yourself in the middle of a nuclear war if an 1200 shows up. :)

There was a A600 and A1200 up for sale recently but they would've gone very quickly.

What I liked about those days is that you could open them up, get into the guts to hack and modify the hardware etc. These days that's almost impossibly with 10layer pcbs, smt etc for the average hobbyist. Back then there were also full circuit diagrams & pcb layouts in the back of your manual.
Exactly. All part of the golden age where every manufacturer had to get support going for their particular system. So they published everything on the system, circuits, detailed descriptions, ROM listings, PCB designs, etc. All to help people grow the user base. Every model had its own magazines and user clubs and a lot of friendly rivalry ensued. :)

Today, all that info is available online, so you can easily repair or expand any system. People still develop new hardware and software today for these 40-year old system. :)

I'm not a collector or that nostalgic but I occasionally look at some of the new stuff the guys bring out, very interesting and for 5sec I wish I still had an amiga before the feeling fades away

May your memory never fade, Sir Clive.

Thank you for the good and fun times we've had with the Speccy.

Just saw.

Much, much more that just the Speccy, though.

Sir Clive was one of the shaping forces of modern times, not just in computing. Steve Jobs would tell you that the Steve Jobs of his day was Sir Clive.

I remember these. There was also the Computing SA(?), if I recall the name correctly. Was a newspaper format that came out in the same era, think weekly. I wrote a few columns for it in the late 80's / early 90's.

Maybe someone here's got a copy lying around.

That's a cool topic to discuss :)

With today's hindsight, what computer would you have kept, from what year?

For someone who grew up on computers in the 80s and 90s, I've been doing a couple searches for 386 and 1st generation Pentiums (we skipped over 486). Anyone have an idea where one might find these? It seems like Pentium 4's are the furthest back one can find.

I upgraded from my ZX Spectrum 48k rubber keyboard to the first model +2. Sadly the tape recorder packed up and couldn't get it repaired so it ended up in a box. When my parents moved, they asked me what to do with it and I told them to chuck it.Quite sad about it now as I probably would've been able to repair it now with all the info on the internet and better experience with electronics. This was about 12 years ago.Had a large box full of software for it too.
