Vintage Computers

I've been out of the loop for a while and the last time I tried emulation for Windows 95 and Windows 98, Virtualbox had no support for accelerated graphics for these OSs. What would you guys recommend to run these environments with acceleration on a modern PC?

Thing is, I miss those old games.

Like the manual in Sierra games.

A blast from the past.

My first one was Space Quest 4. As a 6 year old, hours of entertainment.

I would sit for hours going all over.

And once you would get gatvol, Dad to the rescue to read the English manual on what to do next.

"Het jy die haas gesien. Jy moet hom vang met n tou. As jy hom het haal sy battery uit".

Then a few hours until achieved.

I just realised I got it confused with the S3 Trio 64V2 cards which were PCI and this one is AGP, apparently released in 1999. Yeah the S3 cards were quite popular back then, I still remember the S3 Virge cards back when 3D acceleration was being introduced.
The 3D deceleration by S3 :)

Ok hear me out....

Does anyone here have a Windows 3.11 CD:

I thought I still had the stiffy disks, went looking but they have gone. Have a number of these if anyone wants/needs them, probably useless but for a "display" might be good.

Also 10 brand new Verbatim stiffy disks, and unused stack of labels. Have no idea if they are any good, not going to haul out something to test them

Long shot, but worth trying.

I'm running a couple of old G5's on MorphOS, and I want to upgrade the video cards.

Do anyone have an ATI Radeon AGP 1950X Pro / XT or X1900 for sale? ( must be AGP )

Edit : X800 would also work

Are the labels blank? I may be interested if you'd like to sell them?

Yep, had to break the links on one side to show the labels. Been kept in a Dysan hard box, a good few years old but never been used.

Got the video card, and it fits on the intel motherboard.

Fired it up. Motherboard still is alive as it beeped. No video signal.

Can also be something else that may be wrong on the motherboard (RAM etc).

Will have to find a compatible motherboard to test the video card in. (S3 Virge)

Honestly, it is no big deal. I'm sure I'll get it up. Old stuff need a wee bit of TLC.

Guess I'll have to overhaul the other PCI video card and see if it will work...

But the most important part is - no magic smoke escaped.
