Me and my wife took this 1 year contract with Virgin active last year. We were paying R428 per month each.
Now the contract is going to end on 31 August. I get an email saying I can continue paying on a month on month basis but the price will be increased to R450 each.
When I took the contract I was told that a part of the monthly payment is going towards a joining fee. Now that it has been paid up shouldn't the monthly fee come down? When I enquired at the gym they said if I sign up for another 24 months I can get it for R380/month.
I dont understand this and neither the sales guy at virgin active was unable to explain it.

different pricing structures, for their products...does not mean you carry the benefits of in contract with you , when said contract ends.

Gym contracts are a scam. Another thing they should teach in schools. Always chuckle at the people driving to the gym to work out when they can just walk/run around the block for free.

Walking/running won't give you gainz.

Well that depends what you want...Proper structure training ? Or just be fit.

I:E. , i have no Olympic warm pool to use in the winter at home, also don’t have a watt bike to use for structure training on the bike, neither a rowing machine...

But yes on a weekend nothing beats being out on my mtb or a trail run.

+1

Nothing beats a lekker run or cycle, but running/walking/cycling after dark is not always the smartest of moves...

I go there for the pool and the weights. Also not so safe to run around where I live.

The last time I tried walking around the block I got mugged. At the gym I can walk with my phone with no worries.

Run faster.

Gym contracts should be outlawed. Gyms should charge the same price, month-to-month, for everyone and not lock people into contracts.
True, they count on the fact that most people will just sign up and never show up at gym

A few years ago I decided to join Virgin. I paid upfront for a whole year using my credit card. I clearly remember drawing a line through the contract regarding the debit order part.

Fast forward a year later. I check my bank statement. Virgin had debited my current account with a monthly amount. I went to discovery thinking Vitality had something to do with the debit and for releasing my banking details to Virgin. They hadn't.

I went ballistic when I phoned Virgin. Had a copy of the contract to prove it. They refunded me immediately. Never again with those pricks.

I wish I had so much money that I wouldn't notice R500 odd going off every month...

Any form of long term contract that isn't a form bank loan is a scam.

Has anybody else noticed the water temperature at most VA's is quite low? It's winter ffs.
